Nope, you won't find PVC pipe in this thread :hillbilly: :flipoff2:

As with anything now days, there is a Chinese copy. I came across a Safari Snorkel Replica a few weeks ago, $88 ($60 shipping from MY), and had a nifty "Land Cruiser" printed on the side. I did some research on "ebay snorkels". Came across a thread in the 80 Series section and started to ask questions/read quite a bit. Quite a few posts in there talking about quality/price and nobody seemed to have a complaint, or could find anything wrong about them other than the biased "Safari Snorkel Don't Get Burned" test. I still believe in the test results somewhat, but after seeing/installing the 100 Series snorkel my doubts quickly left my mind. The quality is fabulous, hardware is well made, hose clamps are color coated, etc. The tubing and connectors are very well made and fit perfectly. The only thing thing I can rag on is the template  . There are no sizes, no guides, nothing to tell you how to position the template on the snorkel. I had to guess on the template, and look at about 500 pictures of the Safari Snorkel installed on other 100's and take a wild stab in the dark. I got it perfect first time. I was thrilled.

Now for deckplate vs snorkel. I have been running the deckplate mod for several months now and loved the sound, but I was going through filters every month. I got tired of not having the vacuum lines hooked up, tired of the hot intake temps, and overall just wanted peace of mind wherever I travel that I don't have to worry about things like, will it rain? Will it be dusty? Will there be alot of traffic? Will I be idling for a long time and not moving...things like that got old quickly. At first my gas mileage went down drastically due to the added sound and extra heavy foot trying to make the LC sound like a baja truck. I new it was messing with the AFR, and had a resonance under heavy acceleration and near red line. I replaced everything and sealed the intake today, installing the snorkel. I did a very familiar drive comparing the two setups and can honestly say the truck feels a little quicker with the snorkel, kicked down before it bogged down. Took less throttle to get up the hill, and over sounded a lot better. Over this 5 mile drive with the deckplate I always average 8.2MPG as it's uphill, curvy, and generally has a lot of stop/go and a few long straights to open the truck up. I did all, the snorkel setup feels much better. I averaged 9.5MPG, had more fun (maybe because I was so excited I got the damn thing on), and those little full throttle straight aways I seemed to pick up a quite a lot of extra speed.

Back to the quality, obviously there are some quality questions. I will be keeping an eye on the condition for the next 6 months. It will either get a coat of bedliner mid summer, or I will leave it and keep an eye on it. Overall I am 100% satisfied, I would say for the money I have in this ($187), I could not be happier. If you want instant gratification, spend $187, have it at your front door in 6 days, and install it. If you want to save a few hundred dollars over the Safari, but not in a rush. Give me 6 months of hard wheeling, GA UV's and stop/go traffic and I will report back. Let me know if you have any questions. Here are a few pictures.

I have seen many 100's with Safari Snorkels installed and I can say this one fits perfectly. 100% contact with the fender on all sides. The A-Pillar bracket is rivets, I wasn't to sure about it but it seems pretty strong. The intake hole is 4" exact and the template was correct with that. I managed to drop the snorkel mid install on concrete, so the front of the snorkel has a little...uhm, roughness :bang: oh well.

Snorkel head is a little cheesy. I am going to order a 70-Series pre-cleaner and go that route. This does not have the "water-separator". Which is a hoax anyways for marketing in my eyes.

Snorkel head and a-pillar bracket.

Enjoy    . I would also like to thanks pman for being the ultimate help this weekend. I would not of gotten it installed he did not bring his drill/extra pair of hands. Make sure you have a BEEFY drill before you start this. I burned out my lighter duty drill last night.

How does it work with the antenna? Same as safari?

Nice. I'm agnostic on the merits of snorkels on petrol 100s. But nice.

What makes them any better on diesels? Same principle - move the air intake high.

Very nice and great price. A snork is the one thing I'd love to add to the truck and coincidentally the one thing my wife (who daily drive's the thing) has said no way too. She had one on the 80 and got way too much attention from tards at stoplights.

Looks like their shipping has gone way up, $110.

 My wife is voting for the snorkel to be one of the first mods because they look  (she does want an ARB fridge first).

that snorkel doesnt look bad at all, and something to keep an eye on.... I find the "Land Cruiser" imprint interesting... Kind of like the factory ones on 70-series.

Glad to see you were able to install everything correctly. It looks great! I happened upon a fender for an 80 series with the holes already drilled so if I do buy a snorkel I will definitely just swap the fenders.

Congrats!

I think swapping fenders would take more effort than just drilling and bolting it on. Just make sure you have the RIGHT TOOLS!!!!!!!! haha

Yeah you may be right about that. I was going to come by today, but ended up spending the day at ACC Toyota. Good times. Can't wait to see pictures of your 100 at GSMTR.

Very cool Nick. Looks good. Kudos to you for having the nads to order one of these... I like the Land Cruiser print looks OEM... I am also a big fan of the round air cleaner... I am planning on doing something similar when I put a snorkel on...

Looks great!

That's great you found a way to keep you antenna as removing mine and installing one of those that attaches to the windshield sucks ass.....

I made a template of the fender and may install the antenna on the drivers side and run all the wires to that side if I can't find a solid solution.

It takes a lot of guts to cut holes in a fender. Don't think I can do it!

Looks good. Be sure to post up performance results after a few tanks of gas.

Wow, looks real nice Nick , I also like the print on the side and the ability to change the top filter. but I still like the sleek lines of the TJM... but the price on yours sure is good. I think a snorkel is in my future but now my rear breaks are making a horrible noise...

I saw this mounted on Sat. and the seams were a bit less finished than on the TJM. We didn't have a Safari to compare it to, so I know if it is at the same quality but at 50% of the Safari price, it seems like a good option for the budget-conscious. Also, the "Land Cruiser" wording on the side looked really good.

Any opinions on the hardware included? Can you speak to the grade and coatings (if any)?
