Appears to be paint primer on my '72.

I'm pretty sure my color coded Freeborn red has the same color under the cowl hood hinges.

Is it also spring green inside the engine bay? Either a repaint or spring green used as a primer. Depending on what the factory had available, many 40's were built slightly different. Your title with "FJ" isn't going to get any fans here, might want to change your title to "40" or "FJ40" to get more responses . FJ reminds us of the FJ Cruiser.
