Closure. I ended up with a SnapOn M3585 tool, and Georg made a minor adjustment. Now looking forward to getting some compression numbers.

Can you run us by your test setup please. I need to order these parts from the US it looks like.

The SnapOn tool can be bought on eBay from time to time. Grinding off some of the tool makes it work on the 1HD-FT just like the Mr. T tool.

I have heard of guys making one out of an old injection nozzle. But for me, since I did not have a specific engine in mind, I just got the full kit. From B to 1HD-FTE it has worked flawlessly.

I think a lot of diesel shops would cobble together a tool for this

I use the Laser 4510 kit out of the UK for my 1HD-T. Still pricy, but it has a nice selection + a dedicated 1HD glowplug adapter.

anyone here had success modifying that snap on tool for use in the injectors on a 1hdfte?

The snap on M3585 is for a cummins C 8.3L which uses a 17mm diameter injector

With a little digging you should be able to find a similar on for that application or possibly a yanmar marine diesel application. The ones below are all cummins C series adapters
