I am new to land cruisers and this forum, I have just purchased a 99 tlc and would like to put the largest tires on it that will fit without a lift, I dont want any issues with rubbing the wheel well. any suggestions ?

315x75-16's fit without rubbing...

... in the spare tire well. :p

Robert, welcome to mud!

I just checked the stickied FAQ thread and this question is actually NOT in there.

Maybe the 'New Member' sticky should be re-named to 'Welcome- Read before you post!!!' Then move the part about SEARCH to the top and CAP IT.

Or

When you click the 'new thread' a pop up box will say 'Did you search first?'

Your 99 has a 4:30 gear ratio. The largest you should go is 295/75/16 which may or may not rub depending on the brand type of tire you choose. I would suggest 285/75/16's as there is no rubage and they look great in my opinion.

You guys are turds in a punch bowl.

I went with 38's to start off, then went to 44's after cranking my T Bars.

I agree that this should be sticky-ied or put in the FAQ. Whicever way, I think the post should include the answer for 16" wheels and for 18" wheels.

I must be a turd. But I am a turd that has a matching spare that actually fits in its home.

285's are the way to go. 295 will/may require modification to the spares home. Above 285's I recall Slee stating that you may have to regear.

Doesn't matter to me but the STICKY is wrong. 295 75 16 is the biggest in a 16" rim size.

Well, it must matter to you, because you just had to post about it. Search the past threads, a majority of the few people that have put on a 295 have had issues with rubbing. Not all of them and we know ad nauseum you didn't. Conversely, a minority of the people that have put on a 285 have had issues with rubbing. For example, my truck would rub slightly with 285s when I would go in a driveway or through a dip in the road. If we applied your logic of one truck (yours) being the example of all to my situation, you shouldn't be able to even fit a 285.

So, if this section is going to recommend a size, we're going to error on the side of safety and not giving a new person potential issues with fitment. End of story.
