1996 Toyota Landcruiser.
Mud member since 2013. Finally starting a build thread 2 yrs later.

This thread is titled Daughter's Favorite as I negotiated to get the 80 series from my father during the birth of my daughter (yea wife still talks about that) and though the car drives my wife crazy, my daughter who is now almost 2.5 yrs old loves it. It is her favorite car and she always requests to ride in it - smart girl.

The Landcruiser was previously owned by my father since 2001. I purchased it from him in 2013. Unfortunately my father was fairly rough on the interior of the car, but he did keep fairly regular maintenance otherwise. When I purchased the vehicle in June of 2013 it had 263k mi on it. It currently has 277k mi on it. Over the past 2 yrs I have done a fair amount of work on it. I had no prior mechanic experience other than oil changes on my 1998 Toyota Tacoma. Thankfully I found mud and have learned a ton from the people on this site and the threads. I had the '98 Tacoma since senior year in high school and sold it after graduating from residency to one of my nurses sons. I miss that truck but with the family and only a 2 door truck it just wasn't feasible. Prior to that i drove a 1986 CJ7.

My dad had not been driving the landcruiser much over the past 2 yrs prior to me purchasing it. He would occasional take it to work. There was not much maintenance performed on the vehicle 2 yrs prior to me getting it. However he did drive it 800mi round trip just before i got it - testament to the Landcruiser and it's reliability. Before my wife and I picked up the vehicle from my father he had the valve cover gasket changed, coolant checked, ac recharged, and new spark plugs placed as well as a basic checkup to make sure we could make it the 7 hr drive home.

When my daughter was 1 month old we picked up the Landcruiser from my parents. This was in June in South Carolina. When we headed home everything went great but 1.5 hrs from home in Georgia the AC cut out and even with the windows down it was almost unbearable. We finally raced home and I got to work on the vehicle.

Here is the landcruiser when i picked it up:

I have been hesitant to start a build thread but I did this in hopes of being able to put all of my mods and things I have done to the vehicle in one place. This may also help as an outlet for future questions or input on things needed so they can easily be revisited. Thanks for everyone's help so far. There is no way I would be able to have done what i have completed thus far without the amazing help and knowledge that is available on this website. Thank you all so much. Granted my wife occasionally states that this website may have been the worst thing that happened to me...Oh well.

Thanks. Appreciate it very much. The wife has a love/hate relationship with the rig. All the work has taken a fair amount of time. I have done all of it myself with the aid of my wonderful wife and daughter. Thanks for the kind words.

Went switch hunting at the pick n pull. Found some switches and thought I got lucky but the seat heater switches were from a newer Lexus es300 and are too big. Oh well

Glad to see you finally updated your thread. I was starting to wonder if your digital camera had run out of film. We need to do lunch so I can see those mats.
