Wasn't this MUD upgrade supposed to increase speed ?
well, everything is either slower than before or just as damn slow
I don't need highschool-age features for handing out pats-on-backs or flower bouquets
is there a way I can inactivate this newfangled stuff and continue to live my luddite life

It is faster for me?
What kind of throughput do you get on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test (and what browser are you using?)

Because IMO (and a few other user's opinions) the speed of mud browsing has improved albeit slightly. The complexity of the pages has, however, increased. Using a poor browser (or poorly setup browser) or a low bandwidth connection may aggravate a problem that was causing mud to seem slow for you in the first place.
There are often some tweaks you can apply to enhance your experience.

Cumcast + Firefox 2 = Extremely slow today.
Cumcast + Mozilla 1.7.12 = Extremely slow today.
Cumcast + Exploder 7 = Extremely slow today.
Conclusion. Mud is extremely slow today.

Saturday & Sunday - site is balky!
I have changed nothing in my browser and yesterday and today the site wimps out. This has only occurred after the new upgrade and I really have no idea what is causing it. I had to go to the homepage of ih8mud a couple of times to navigate to the help corner because it would not display from the open the link on the general forum page and/or I could not get to the general forum page from rChat. Must be Gremlins as I posted up in TUT a little while ago.
It is almost as if a denial of services attack is underway. It does not matter which browser that I use or which provider, computer or whether the firewall and virus prevention software is on or off.
When I go to a new page the site often times out before it will load the page. Many occasions the site just stopped loading in mid-page. I tried FireFox, IE7 and even an old Netscape 7. I have made no changes in the browsers but the problems persist. This has happened on mid speed DSL at my shop on one provider and two of the browsers on three different computers. It has happened at home on two other computers and three different browsers.
All the other sites are popping right up. Have tried rebooting, disabling internet security software and everything... it was fine earlier this morning but the problem is back. It is most frustrating when I have tried to post and the post disappears into the timeout and cannot be retrieved. I have started copying the posts onto clipboard before hitting the submit button because I know how much you all enjoy reading what I type.
DD noticed the same thing in the Houston area on his aircard.

Those of you having this problem who are using firefox, especially those of you that are computer savvy, try installing this extension and see if you can get it to tell you what is the culprit. I'm betting on an ad component or something...

Like I said, I'm slow with Firefox, Exploder, Mozilla. The video was taken of Exploder.

Right, and are you slow in the same spot on the page? This would lead me to believe it is a linked component causing the problem. I load a page in about .5 seconds or else I would do my best to figure out what is causing it, but I can't reproduce the issue :(
