The Forest Service is having a cleanup partiality sponsored by REI and I think that we should support it. Mainly because the area really needs help (tons of shooter trash), but also a chance to interact with "REI types", show that there are "OHV types" that care.

It's my understanding that they maybe underestimating the magnitude of the need, like only planning for one dumpster, etc. I will further inquire as to how we can best help.

Arizona recycling is providing 3 -20 yard bins for metal related goods, so that is something. My guess is there will be much more non-metal?

For TRAL members, now would be a good time to get government drivers licences, allowing us to drive Forest Service trucks? I plan to do it soon, if anyone else wants to join in, email Amy or I have the forums, info.

And Amy's E-mail address is...

I would be interested. I will be at the clean up.

Recycling? This should be interesting.:hhmm:

I have to admit, I've always felt a little conflicted about all the recyclables that get thrown out during clean ups. But I believe the taking the time to separate good trash from bad would compromise the clean up effort.:meh:

If these guys can pull it off, hats off to them. I don't see it working out.:frown:

no can join, I will be at a conference in Germany that day, and meeting my brother later in the evening

There was plenty of talk about this at the event this weekend. There will be one 40yrd dumpster, possibly the FS garbage truck, for trash and the ones for "metal/recycle". The talk was about having a "dumpster team", to somewhat separate/sort and load them. Provide colored bag ties to designate bag contents. The recycle company would prefer to get some return on the investment, but understands that we can't 100% sort it, so will see how it goes? Would prefer that they are happy with the outcome, so they would be more likely to support future events?

Not sure if or how much REI is promoting it, so no real "feel" for attendance number, but it could be big? If so would like to maximize the work that could be done, the area needs it. If participation is big, teams could be sent to lower sycamore, 4peaks, etc.

One thing that would be handy is a couple of trailers, to do bag pickup runs.

If I werent able to make it till 10:30-ish, where would I find the CSC group? I guess I could look for the bright yellow/gold CSC shirts...

Can I get someones cell phone # that I can call when getting close to the area who will already be there?

Ive missed the last couple of these and want to really make it this time.

A good cause for our desert and to represent the OHV crowd!

Murf, the best bet would be to have your CB on because cell phone connectivity is not always optimal depending on location. I thought you had my cell phone number but again the CB would be the best bet. We can always make a plan on the area we will clean and text you that information as we head to that area. I am sure it can work out. ;)

I may need a ride, if it works out for me. Let me know if a seat is open

We will be doing what is needed, so maybe working together or not? Likely to be somewhere along FR402 between the highway and Sheep Camp. Ask at the main meeting area, TRAL or FS personal should know what we are doing, drive around to find cruisers and yellow shirts?

I get back to PHX Thursday nite and will have the young'n Ssaturday, so if we make it, we'll be about 10:30 as well. CB, being line-o-sight, can be as spotty as cell coverage, so keep us posted. Kevin and Rob both should have my cell number.

Well then, you can still help out in the afternoon... :D

I'm in! And I have an empty seat for anyone in the east-east-east-valley...

Cool! SAddletramp, I'll call you later this week and try to plan on picking you up on the way out.

We will ask and look for cruisers, also try channel 4 on the cb in case someone is in their truck. Im sure we will work it out

I have an 8x10 dirt bike trailer. Do you think it will be of any use if I bring it? Do we need to bring our own shovels and rakes or will they be provided?

Does it have a floor, we will be hauling mainly bags?

Bring all of the typical cleanup stuff, gloves, grabber, maybe rake, 5gal buckets are sometimes handy, etc. If you don't have some of it no worries, likely to be plenty of "stuff" there. I haven't heard any word about lunch, so would bring it.

I just received an email from Rich. REI is providing lunch, it might consist of hay, chickpeas and tofu:p

I suggested to Rich that he touch base with REI and if they're not prepared for the extra help, it might be a good idea for TRAL to bring our junk and supplement lunch with some searing animal flesh.:bounce::bounce2:
