I finally found the perfect spare tire for UNDER your 80, with 35 inch tires..
It is the Interco M21 or 9/34 16. I put it on a 7 x16 inch toyota steel wheel, as you can see it sits way higher than stock... and yes I have done the spare tire mod.

Excellent choice for a 35 inch low clearence spare!

Strong work:cheers:

Daggum! Great find....

can you cut this for me?

real man spacesaver spare- nice work!

reminds me of the wife's spare tire in the VW Passat. Same height as stock, just a LOT narrower.

Nice job and great idea. It's nice to armor on the back but swinging that tire out of the way every time you want to get into the back of your truck is a real pain.

The funny thing is that is weighs more than my 35x12.50 set up.. Interco tires are heavy!!!

Very well done! Have you done any other changes other than raising the assembly? There is a bracing bar at the rear of the cavity... did you remove that? Anything to change the angle?

I get to muddy trying to get those damn things out on the trail. Good find though!

I only raised the normal stuff, I did 2 inches in the front and 1.5 in the back (just about max). I stuffed it as far up as I could and still use the hand crank.

Is the swamper the same height side by side? It looks that way. I hope not. It shoud be a taller without any weight on it so there is room to sag.

Keep in mind the Swamper will drop 1"-1.5" after the weight of the truck is on it.

That would not be good if you are driving on a smaller tire because the spider gears and the VC at least on the street will get a workout, and worse, locked on the trail, 2 tires at unequal heights would not be good, either.

The tires are very close to the same size with the spare off and the other on the rig. I have 50 psi in the spare to keep it as big as I can, the sidewall on the Interco is so stiff that the tire mounting machine had to be helped with a sledge hammer to finish putting it on the rim, with the weigh of the LC on it I will adjust the air in the other tire on the same axle down until we they are the same height.. If I need to drive a little slower because of the lower (20-25 psi) pressure in the 35x12.50 i will gladly do it..
thanks for the concern for my rig..

Good, sounds like you know what you need to do. That tire is really tucked up in there.

I tried to really hide it, don't much care for the Poppy diaper look.. I have been looking for the correct tire for 6 months...

Manufacturers specs on that tire are:

SAM-21 9/34-16LT 6ply 27/32 8"tread width 33.8" diameter 9.1(C.S.) 16x6.5 45psi 2370max load

Not quite 35" but probaby good enough as most 315's measure closer to 34" when they've been used for some time.

Yup, those are the specs. it turned out to be taller mounted on the rim than I figured it would be (very good thing) and it is so freakin' stiff you could run it on a small tank! (Freakin' is a Utah term) We have a lot of strange words here to avoid swearing, but still sounding like you are...

I will be off IH8mUD until Monday, but I will answer any questions then (if you have any)

This would be a good choice for an expedition rig to get a second spare. I did a similar thing on my 60 I ran a 34x9.50 as a spare for my 35s. I wish I would have thought about this prior to having my exhaust run. It is center dump.
