So I have been trying to figure out what I can mess with on my cruiser while I wait for my front bumper mock-up this coming Saturday and I have resigned myself to cleaning the leather and fixing the PO's paint touch ups.

Today when I got home I was greeted with a bunch of little plastic bags with Chinese writing on them. I had completely forgotten that I had ordered these:

I have been interested in the whole interior LED thing and had purchased a Putco 2X4 along with a single T10 from Pep Boys. My problem was that the Putco light cost over $20 and the T10 cost over $8.

Here is what got me interested in the first place (Putco 2X4 and single map LED):

I wrote a couple of emails and got connected to a source in China. I ordered enough LEDs to outfit 3 LCs for testing (minus the door courtesy lights). I also purchased a few extras of various sizes to test light distribution, fit and color.

After playing around a little bit, I decided to go with the following:
-Front ---------(2X) 10 LED
-Middle Row --(2X) 16 LED
-Middle Row -- (1) 48 LED
-Rear ----------(1X) 48 LED
Edit (03.31.2011):
-Doors---------(4X) 25 LED (Not installed yet)
-Extra----------(1X) 1 red LED (Map Light)
1 extra 10 LED
1 extra 1 LED (Red)
1 extra 16 LED
1 extra 25 LED
1 extra 48 LED

Here is a comparison of the single LED I had in the front compared to the 10 LED. Keep in mind that the single LED was brighter that the stock bulb.

My findings so far:
-All LED components are high quality
-Bulb ratings are between 50-60k hours
-Sizing was very accurate (for sockets)
-Quality double-sided thick rubber tape is used on all back panels
-Color is white with a very slight hint of blue
-Huge gain in light coverage area
-Huge gain in brightness
-Not overly bright (these will be great on camping trips)
-Rear LED panel touches plastic OEM light cover plate. I touched it after 10 minutes on and it was cool to the touch

I plan installing LEDs in the 4 door panels also. Finally, I am ordering some front LEDs in red (for map reading).

I figured this project would have cost me about $120 (EDIT: as of 03.22.11 it would have cost me over $220.00) had I gone with the big name brands. Thing is, this is solid state equipment with no filaments. These are probably all sourced from the same location anyways. (I liken it to big brands selling HDMI cables for over $100 when you could buy them online for $2)

Looks great, glad we went a little overboard on the sizes. I'll post my results tommorow/Friday with a DSLR and comparison shots for all.

Paul and I knew we could deliver a complete LED solution to the 100 Series owners for a very reasonable cost. So we decided to dive in and see.

I started looking into this same project but never finished it... Since you guys are taking the guess work out of it and are making it easy you can count me in for a set as well... I've done the pep boys LED route and it gets expensive quick...

gotcha. pep boys LED's are garbage, I tried one and it was absolutely pathetic.

We are doing this because you are right, LED route does add up quick.


Let us do the work, it will be at your door when you place the order!





Now what types of filters would you guys like to see? Few options to have adjustable lighting would be nice huh? colors, % , etc would be helpful..
