Welp, it's the only car I have.

We'll see how well it holds up. If it rots off its frame, I'll weld in new steel and it'll be new again.

"I may not always be driving, but when I am, it is in my Toyota Land Cruiser...."

you and me both...run what you brung!!!

The last few days were very eventful.

First, used Zeke to take some scrap iron and old appliances to the junk yard, where I proceeded to lose my wedding ring. Took about an hour to find it, but I had the entire staff helping me before we did.

Then, I took about 25 gallons of old used motor oil to the recycling center, and one of the gallons burst from old age, coating the floor of Zeke from back to front. Next week, I am going to pull out the interior completely and clean it thoroughly with Dawn detergent. The interior is now thoroughly rust proofed, anyway.

Today, I changed oil, fiddled with the timing a bit and worked with the idle. I am thinking there is something slightly hinky with the linkage both "to" the carb and on the carb itself. It's a Holley 2300, and am thinking I might be able to get it running good enough for gubmint work.

And then some jewelry showed up in the mail from Cruiser Corps.

I put them on, and then headed out to the local Animal Rescue League and may have fallen in love with another girl, not my wife.

My lovely bride has already forgiven me for my transgression, and is in fact going to come with me on Saturday to see if she passes muster with her as well.

So, tomorrow is my first big road trip. Off to Milwaukee to pick up a top loader four speed for my '67 Mustang. Wish me luck, and I hope everything goes well.

So, to totally bastardize the words of some famous old dude: "I have returned!"

Just spent a long day on the highway across Iowa and Wisconsin, mostly in the fog, to pick up a 4 speed Top Loader transmission for my main bird getter 1967 Mustang.

First, a beauty shot of the new Land Cruiser Emblem:

One of the things I look forward to driving through North East Iowa and across Wisconsin is the beautiful scenery. Well, due to heavy fog, this is what I saw most of the way.

Well, Zeke did ab out 650 miles today, and my biggest takeaway is that the carb/linkage/timing needs to be fixed. Despite my dinking around with various carb controls, I just cannot find a good idle, and I'm out of room to retard timing. Need to get into the basics of this Holley 2300 conversion and possibly look into going back to Aisin.

Having said that, the rig performed very well during interstate driving at 65-70 mph. Only time I noticed the SOA lift was in passing large semis at higher speeds. The body really wants to ride the semi's bow wave, and it takes an alert hand to keep it from doing so. Still, it's not out of my comfort zone.

In addition to my lack of horn buttons, my headlight bright/dim stalk won't move at all. I will dig into the steering column and force it to give up its secrets in the upcoming days, along with all the other car crap I need to do.

Luckily, this was waiting for me when I got home.

Very good little document that really ties the FSM to regular day to day use.

Now I am coming down from the driving high I usually have with cheap vodka and chatting with a friend online. Bed soon!

There was a copy of that same owner's manual in the glove box. Hopefully you didn't have to buy another one.
I never liked that Holley and I had wished it still had the Aisin, but with a little (maybe a lot) of adjusting, it should idle/run "pretty good" if you can get your timing set. I should've had it advanced about 5 or 6 degrees (12 or 13) when you got it. If you can get it back down to 7 or 8 degrees (I'm assuming where you live is just a bit above see level) it will be happier. Though, even tuned, it never ran quite as good as a 2f with a stock carb and I really wanted to go EFI. I thought the worst part of that Holley conversion is the throttle linkage and the choke cable setup.

I never had a problem with the brights. If you can get them to work again, you'll be treated with a cool purple light between your gauges!

Good to see you're putting some miles on the old pig, and it made it all the way to WI and back! Not bad. You'll have that thing ready for the next Pig Party in no time!

Yay for purple lights!

I'll start working on that this am.

I didn't even consider looking for that manual. I just "ass" umed I needed one. ;)

Well, now I have a shop copy and that's good!

The problem with the carb is a linkage one, I think. The distributor is retarded as much as it will go, so it may need restabbed. But I'm not sure, and just getting over a day of driving and will take that on later.

Well, my lower radiator hose decided to start perishing. Good thing it happened now and not on the way to Milwaukee.

Looks like NAPA can special order in hoses by Wednesday. Curious what they will look like, and whether they need massive trimming/persuading to fit. Supposed to be Gates.

I finally got the floor mat taken up and the rest of the oil spill cleaned. Funny thing, I used my 20 year old piece of junk Harbor Freight power washer that I bought in extremis and only expected to use a couple times back in the day. Combined with my outdoor hot water tap and some Dawn "blue" soap, it turned out real nice.

Found my floors are in real decent condition. Driver's side front is the only rusted out chunk.

I was extra hard working today, as my supervisor showed up and stayed on site all day.

Talk about a slave driver. Literally starts working here a day and a half ago, and already keeping a close eye on me.

That is an awesome looking dog! Do you know what breeds are in there? The reason I ask is because all Iron Pigs need an awesome looking dog and this is mine:

They look like they could be related. Mine is Gwen and she is mostly pitbull and who knows what else.

They are a lot like an Iron Pig. They are heavy, incredibly strong, and very loyal. Enjoy every minute!

I was thinking mine might have beagle or hound in her as well. They really are very good dogs, except when she gets bored and goes though my fence. Not over or under but though. Broken wood everywhere and a giant hole in my fence. Mine was a rescue dog also.

That beagle in them doesn't do anything but lower the Center of Gravity 6 inches. Which if you understand physics, makes for an incredibly powerful dog.

Do you have personal experience with that? If so, which arrangement did you pick?

I'm curious about options other than their ECM controlled distributor. Why would someone other options?

Yes. It is on my 60 series. Unreal. Best mod ever.

The DUI upgrade is a good one. Makes the wiring easier. Also get the live wires.

Blue '84 gets a fresh start- AFI EFI

I probably would've been better off if I had.

The only part that fit was PN 7614. The rest were pretty much a waste of $120, with 3 gallons of 50/50 antifreeze.

The bypass hose was 1/2" too short.

The upper hose had to be "tortured" to fit, as well as being trimmed to fit.

The block to heater circuit hose worked if you cut it in half.

The hose on the right lower part of the photo fit *nothing* and I returned it.

I just don't get why they'd bother to sell a too short bypass hose. I've got it on there, now, but only just. Will probably put the old one back on, or at least carry it along if it works.
