Thanks!

Most of those are March 1975 or June 1978 ... there has to be a clue in there somewhere!!! Need more data and research.

Did you find any patters like this in your research?
I would love to see any research you have.

The point of my review was to find out what value (begin or end) was in the SOR frame chart. I was surprised to see the variations. I also noticed that some months had unusually large or small production numbers. Did not really pursue the reason for these anomalies.

My conclusion was that the SOR frame chart is a useful reference to get a ball-park for month of manufacture, but should not be considered as the last word.

I view this much like automotive archaeology. Through further research, we can uncover patterns within anomalies, formulate theories to explain outliers, and enhance the precision of our conclusions. This work is enjoyable for me, so I will continue as long as I enjoy it or until there nothing left to discover.

Looks like I need to start asking people to send me a pic of their VIN plate so I can check for anomalies... :)

They have not and that is one of the reasons that I have my doubts about it. Though it does appear to be very accurate, I'd like a source. I've asked around but haven't gotten answers.
The Land Cruiser Museum website features the Toyota Frame Production Number Manual, aiding in verifying the SOR chart up to 1972. It is likely that a similar resource exists for models up to 1983. Considering the limited anomalies, the chart appears to be quite dependable. Any discrepancies are likely explainable. Further research is necessary, and I will continue to investigate to uncover more information.

FJ40267265 Cool you are doing this!
Your 40's most likely Birthday is Tuesday January 17, 1978.

Does your VIN tag say January?

FYI, your cruiser is only one day away from MUD member JDNs78FJ40 and only 176 units away from each other. They probably traveled here to the USA on the same ship.

I was wrong. April 21st is Taurus. The greatest of the Land Cruiser signs:

There are several differences between the FJ40 frame numbers listed in this Toyota manual and the SOR FJ40 Frame Chart. The Toyota manual values may be more correct in that they don't cause the issue with 7503 plates described in post #99 above. The Toyota manual only covers frame numbers from 6401 through 7504.

Here's an updated chart that includes the Toyota manual information. Where the Toyota manual and SOR chart differ, the value is tagged with an asterisk.

This is excellent. Such collaboration will undoubtedly help to the increased accuracy of our research.

The later models from 1980 to 1984 posed more challenges in terms of accuracy. In the 1970s, Toyota appeared to operate a specialized assembly line solely for the Land Cruiser, producing over 100 units daily. However, by the 1980s, production significantly dropped to around 30 units per day or approximately 700 per month. It remains unclear whether Toyota's approach involved maintaining a smaller team on a dedicated line operating throughout the month or if they followed a pattern of producing 600-700 Land Cruisers in a single week before switching the line to another model for the remainder of the month.

If anyone possesses information regarding this, please share in the comments.

If Toyota indeed operated a dedicated line for the Land Cruiser throughout the month, your 40s birthday would likely fall on Wednesday, March 16, 1983.

Could you kindly provide a photo of the VIN tag on the door pillar to assist in confirming this information? Thank you!

If anyone is willing, it would be greatly appreciated if you could take a photo of the VIN tag located on the driver's door pillar. I intend to incorporate this information into my research to enhance the accuracy of future data. I am currently compiling a spreadsheet containing all the VINs to ensure consistency in recording dates stamped with the SOR chart and the updated version from jblatz - https://forum.ih8mud.com/members/jblatz.172271/.

Thank you!
