Man, the only thing I can think of is on the 68/69 years they had a small door pull (plastic) and I don't think they had an arm rest. I could be wrong, but I bought some 69 doors and they had that plastic pull on them. I'm sure the window crank handles were different, also.

That’s what I’m wondering. I know there are differences in the front regulators in addition to the design changes on the later front doors. I’ve also come across regulators for rear doors that were either awkward (fitting, performing) or didn’t fit at all. I have one in the back passenger side that fits the bolt pattern and holds the window up, but just doesn’t work correctly, and I don’t know why. Could be because of this...

I have a set of 73 and a set of 78. Will try to get some pictures posted up soon.

Here are some pictures. 78 on the right, 73 on the left. 78 door fits the opening on the 73, hinges in same location. These look identical to me. Didn’t pull cover to check innards, but window cranks and handles appear the same. Hope this helps.

isnt there a difference in the gear stud for the window crank? I thought early doors had a shorter tooth length.

Now I know why my driver door window crank won't stay on. Must have substituted a later model mechanism when I replaced the old one. Time to either break out the grinder or use a dab of silicone.
