I want to get a few things for my truck, and figured I would see if anyone had anything used for sale.

First is a roof rack. I need a flat rack due to a very low garage. I really like the t-slot mounting system of the Front Runner. Don't really care for the Baja Rack. There have been a couple for sale recently that I wish I could have grabbed like these:

Second is some kind of drawer system. I have the cargo box, which works well, but would like something lower so I can setup a sleeping platform on top. Would want something like the Outback drawers or similar with a metal frame and plywood.

How heavy are these drawer systems? My cargo box is around 35lbs I think. I'm hoping the drawers not much more than double that per side but can't find it published anywhere.

Hey Eric-

I can't help you out much with the roof rack.

But since youre handy with some tools, I highly suggest you build your drawer system. Your largest expense will be the high test 36" slides. You'll have to source them from a specialty shop, I ordered mine through a buddy who is a carpenter, if i recall correctly, they were around $250. My drawer system weighed about 180 - 200lbs empty. You'll save a lot if you build them, plus the satisfaction. Happy New Year buddy. Let me know if you need any help - I love these types of projects. I have some finishing tools as well.

Hi Mike, happy new year! I was considering getting a 100 series, but the price difference is still too much right now so I decided to upgrade my 80 instead.

I hear you on making the drawers myself. I don't have near the skills you, Derrick and Steve have. Even if I did the weight of a full wood set of drawers is too much to be hauling around all the time. That's why I was looking at the metal frame composite type. Not sure what the weight of the Outback drawers are, but the AT drawers are 50lbs per side for the composite, 80lbs per side for the birch. The birch drawers are $350 per side which is the direction I may go if I can't find a set of composite drawers at a good price. The AT composite drawers are about the same price as the Outback though but I like the Outback much better.

OK, I'm warming up to the idea of a BajaRack (flat, utility model)

http://www.bajarack.com/lc80-ut

Anyone have one of these? Thoughts?

Can you measure the distance from the top of the gutter above the C pillar to the top of the rack for me? I am strongly considering the Front Runner and want to see if the BajaRack sits lower. The FR is just under 6.5"

If there is anyone in San Diego with a low profile rack installed on their 80 I would be interested in seeing it in person and possibly take a ride to get a better idea of what kind of noise to expect.

Hey Eric,

I have the BajaRack utility and am very happy with it. I did a quick measurement this morning and it sits about 6.25" above the C pillar. You are welcome to check it out and take a ride with me to hear the wind noise just shoot me a PM.

I was very close to purchasing a bajarack utility, but am now having second thoughts. I can get the front runner for about $250 more, and it seems to be a lot more rack. Is the FR worth the extra coin?

Also, is 75lbs heavy for a rack? I see some minimalistic racks that weight under 40-50lbs. Is 75lbs on the roof noticeable?

honestly, I don't think the 4runner is worth the extra dough, bajarack is local and you can pick it up near the border.....

Ordered the frontrunner today.

Bajarack had a bunch of extra fees (higher sales price direct than vendors, tax, will-call fee) and I got the FR for a couple hundred more and I think it is much more of a rack. I still think the baja would be a nice rack, but I really liked the versatility of the FR.

For the guys that have built their own drawer systems, what is your opinion of these:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/ma-nh-yankee-toys/786941-interest-custom-rear-cargo-storage.html

He doesn't use slides, any issues there? They look pretty nice, although I like the metal frame ones like the outback better, but they cost more. Price seems high, but I'm not current on material and labor costs. Also, he says 50 lbs. Seems like they would be heavier than that.

50lbs could be accurate, I think mine weighs around 40 with only 1 drawer but a full top.

Honestly I couldn't imagine no slides on it! But just have him build the drawer a little smaller and 30" slides on DrawerSlide.com were very reasonable when I got them. Then just add the slides yourself.
