@THeGeNTLeMaN - This the thing you're talking about? If so, PM me your address and I'll get it all ready to go and let you know how much to ship. This piece is decently hefty and I'm in Utah so I'm thinking gonna be at least $30 bucks or so. Let me know.

You can unbolt the brackets that hold it on... btw I have some at my shop if you do need those

Just found TexGx's build thread on expo. I'm not a huge fan of the hidden winch placement. It looks too low. I think it would look much better in line with the fog light grills.

The Time Has Come: My GX build - Page 15 - Expedition Portal

If you keep the winch in line with the factory bumper height it's going to sit low. I'm no structural engineer but common sense tells me that's the best place because it keeps the pull of the winch directly in line with the frame, not above it.

It actually has more to do with where the line feeds onto the drum... If you put the fairlead in line with the fog lights it would almost always be pulling over and rubbing on the fairlead this causing wear and damage to the line and or the fairlead. Having the fairlead lower and off centerline (vertically) of the winch will give optimal performance.

I think he's suggesting that the winch itself sit higher, not just moving the fairlead. Off setting the fairlead would definitely wear on the line like you said, but it would make no sense to do that.

I cant see the pictures bc im not a member of that forum ... but if its a bolted to the core like bud built the line feed has to be lower than the core to dodge it...if its not behind the core and it closer to the inner face of the bumper than it may not have the head room it needs bc of the flat area in front of the grill

The winch in my ARB is undoubtedly higher than that... Sits just above front frame horns.

AKA, a well designed bumper or hidden winch mount could easily have the winch and fairlead sitting up higher than the one in that pic.

Given that @THeGeNTLeMaN is designing a hidden winch mount from ground up that *replaces* the aforementioned inner bumper core piece, I'd say he's already off on the right foot.

I agree that replacing the entire bumper (inner structure not bumper cover) would solve the problem of a too low departure angle. @THeGeNTLeMaN knows what he is doing or will do the research to find out and not just wing it. He is very proud of his work.

Im proud of YOU Brad! ;)

I did a little bit of fab work on my SSS front bumper this evening in preps to have it powder coated and I pulled some measurements on the 4runner inner bumper I have (assuming it's the same ... I'll found out when I get a gx in house) and some measurements on the front of my vehicle. .. it looks as though there should be approximately 8" of depth to work with... the average winch to my knowledge is only about 6" ... taking into consideration I may run into interferences with the plastic cover it should fit in the pocket snug as a bug ... the most obvious point of interface behind the winch would be some hoses ... and It appears that I maybe able to securely relocate then back towards the radiator an 1" or so with a small relocating bracket ...
This is just what I'm gathering from my perspective with my SSS still mounted on the vehicle at the moment I'll get a better look when I remove it of course

Pardon me... But I saw something about some new wgw product progress, and I was wondering if anyone had some news they would like to share with the rest of us fine gents...
