Started making the older 3-prong ARB cables now.

J,

I have a Whynter 65 and soon a Whynter 62 Dual Zone. Whynter makes the Edgestar (private label)

I'll get a pic of the plug. Should be the same plug as the Edgestar I'd think and might open up to a few more customers.

J

Interesting BUT I would also need to know the polarity, just in case ;)

I'm going to be posting this same thing in a few of my threads but only be cause they are related so my apologies if you've seen this elsewhere on MUD. Because I am working on OBA turn key systems I have been figuring out what I think would be the most useful. In this case its bulkhead mounting a Quick Disconnect air coupler and the SB50 with environmental housing and cover. Thoughts?

From past experience, unless that Anderson cover is 100.00% water tight it's best to not use anything at all and just wash the connector out as needed.

I used one of the typical 'red' boots (not an amazing seal) and water collected inside and sat and started to corrode the terminals of the anderson connector. Since just letting it dangle un-booted I have had zero corrosion issues. The water was from water crossings and general road spray. Consider that if this is front or under hood mounted you have vehicle speed helping water get into things.

So, just one thing to evaluate. Your boot appears better, but just ensure it is 100% water tight - if the front IS, then ensure water can't get in from the cable end (electronic grade Silastic etc).

cheers,
george.

I've had the same experience as George with the red boot, a lot of grit and corrosion. I'm not as smart as George, never thought of leaving it off! :)

George I'm 100% with you. I only saw the red plug before and I was never thrilled with it which is why I never bothered. But then APP came out with this environmental boot and it's pretty robust. On another note, I keep trying to purchase the Sidewinder Housing but it's only available in AUS and no one wants to sell to me :(

Sidewinder housing? I've got some mates in Perth, so one of them would likely be happy to purchase/re-ship to you if needed.

cheers,
george.

Sweet! I'll PM you the link. If it's as good as it seems it could be a very good solution.

I am a little confused. Is this for the front of your rig, to be used with a set of jumper cables or is this part of your refrigerator adapter for the back of your truck?

It's for whatever EXCEPT jumper cables. The SB50 (smallest plug Anderson makes in that line) is only 50A max. You could use it for a fridge that you move outside the truck, it can be to power your trailer, or to plug in your solar power panel instead of alligator clips on the battery, or it can be used to power your modified 12v impact driver or....

No. Look at the connector size-they are huge. The SB50 can handle 120 amps continuous. The "50" refers to the rated capacity when plugging in a live load. I guess the spark is acceptable at 50 amps. But when already plugged it can handle much more. Here is a helpful table from Anderson:

Anderson SB® Connector, Connector Boot, Anderson Power SB Boots

Interesting, the information doesn't seem to be consistent. 120A is very good news indeed...well, in some respects :P
