If I were Joey, I'd invite
@tegucruiser over for a few days of hands-on R&D and fabrication time to fully understand what he's dealing with growing this awesome enterprise. So many people are always quick to point out issues with home grown products, most have never made a half assed attempt to do what he does in a very full 24 hours. I'm patient and get to relish a well thought out product when it's fully baked. There's lots of canned solutions out there. If I wanted one, I would have bought one and not disparaged a fellow Mud member, fabricator and entrepreneur. I personally love the products he dreams up and frequently joke that he's the other side of my brain.
I have a similar vision on MANY of his creations but don't have the polished fit and finish, the 25th hour in my day, CAD skills, FAB skills, web store skills, garage space, an awesome spouse, etc. that's needed. I do fab the heck out of my own gear and routinely stare at the end result trying to comprehend how it took the better part of 100-300 hours of drawing, cardboard and paper prototyping, redrawing, fiddling, fabricating, staring at it for a few hours, starting over, prototyping again, wiring, ty-wrapping, drilling, filing, grinding, fitting, staring at it for a few more hours, redrawing, trying to sleep and then jumping out of bed at 2:00 AM to go measure something or tweak something because I'll never sleep if I don't do it IMMEDIATELY, then finally realizing the dream, painting, enjoying its use for a short time while kicking myself for the 100 things I'd do differently NEXT TIME and second guessing why I wasted so much time on this poor prototype, then listening to so many people lauding it and telling me how great it is and what a visionary creator I am and how I should sell them to the Mud community and then staring blankly at them as I slowly shake my head as I relay my conversations with Joey about the time and dedication he puts into HIS products. And I didn't even involve detailed drawing and planning with CAD, multiple METAL prototype and fitting fabrication sessions, another unreliable machine shop where I play 4th fiddle to the big boys, tumbling shop and powder coating shops delays, supplier shipping issues, component availability and supply issues, R&D time with well known vendors to refine their catalogs and product offerings, well thought out packing and packaging, constant web site maintenance and e-commerce knowledge, wrapping, packing and shipping of the finished products, constant customer and Mud postings for updates and feedback and umpteen other things I don't even know about that he keeps secret!
That's just for the
ONE product....Joey offers at least TWO products that I know of.
