Hey, so I decided to finally work on this problem I've had. Window goes up and down fine the only problem I have is that when it starts to go up there's a clunk at the beginning.

I opened the panel and checked all the visible nuts are tight and I greased the window rails.

Anyone come across a fix for this? Is there anything that can be tightened inside the door? (On the inner section)

I tried to pinpoint where the clunk is from it seems somewhere around the middle where the motor is.

Its on the left front window (passenger side since we Rhd)

Land cruiser Cygnus (same as lx470) 2002 model 4.7 v8

If I'm understanding you correctly. There should be a bolt on the bottom of the window track, near the outside handle, that comes loose, take it out, apply some thread lock and tighten it back. No more clicking when trying to go up.

Do you also hear a rattle when you close the door and the widow isn't fully closed?

#1 on diagram is the glass... let me open up and check if I can feel anything there... didn't even realised u had replied. Just figured out how to use the forum on mobile Lol.

Tnkx bro will update soon.

Oh and no rattle or anything when closing door or hitting it or anything. Can I upload vid here?

I have this exact issue, will try your remedy. Thanks man!

I believe @ibrahim83 is correct as I implemented this fix just recently and my clunk is gone. It is the bolt between the glass and regulator!

Thanks all for the advice!

My drivers window makes more of a popping sound that makes me think the glass is going to shatter, but it sounds like this might be it.

Interestingly, I've found that if I take the window all the way down it is fine. It is only a problem if the window was partially opened.

i'm willing to bet that bolt is loose. keep us updated please.

So the other morning I got in the cruiser to top off the gas tank before a camping trip and my window jumped out of the track and forced me to solve the issue then and there. It was a bit of a pain getting it back in place so my advice to anyone with this issue is tighten that bolt asap.

Here are some pictures of what I had to do:
First, pull off enough of the plastic to get to the lower access opening:

Then tighten this bolt (or in my case fish it out of the bottom of the door)

It looks like whoever put the adhesive on my door put it too low, there was a section of plastic that was not sealed. Unless that is by design?

Similar problem here.

Truck about ready to go in for new speakers. While door panel is off, want to do this fix.

Anyone know the exact specs for the suspect bolt (threads/length/etc.)?

Thanks in advance

i tightened it and added loctite blue to it.Nothing too crazy. it's a very common issue if you use the window often. No issues for the past year i've had it done.

This is exactly what I needed to fix mine. It sounded like the blasted window was going to break anytime I shut the door with it <100% closed. I also noticed it rattled when rolled all the way down, but not when I raised it 1" or so - this fixed that, too. Thank you!

This bolt was loose in my drivers door as well. Thanks for the

Thanks for the pics. This fixed mine as well.

I used the door removal thread from the FAQ to remove the panel. Link for anyone following:

Hello from almost 10 years later. Wanted to give this thread a shout out as this was my exact issue. Window sounded like it was snapping in and out of the track or something and sometimes sounded like it was going to break . Was super happy when I opened up the door panel and saw this screw loose. Easy to loctite back down and easy to close up the door panel. Thanks again everyone.

What’s up man, also finding this 10 years later. Pretty sure I have the same issue. Loud clunk fully closed, loud clunk fully open, and rattles like hell if I drive around with the window fully down.

Question, did you have to lower the window all the way to replace the screw? Or is that thread always in that position?

Thanks!

Hey Man,

I took the door panel off (pretty easy to do - this was the video that helped me the most )

The screw is part of the window regulator and starts to back out over time I suppose - As it backs out, the screw gets that much longer/deeper in the door panel and starts to catch on a piece of metal in the door and makes that awful sound when it snaps off the metal as it passes by.

Once I got the door panel off it was easy to find - I had to plug the window switch/controller back into the plug (after removing it to get the door panel off) to lower the window roughly 1/4 of the way down so that the screw shows itself in one of the access holes in the door panel.

Once I found the screw I put blue loc-tite on it and buttoned everything back up. Only tip would be to make sure you don't forget where all the screws on the door panel go! I accidently left one off and closed it all the way back up - had to remove the panel again to put it back as it was one of the last screws that came off.

Stealing an image from bamabrock's post but once you lower the window down about 1.4 of the way, you'll see this white plastic part of the window regular and I'll bet $20 your little brass colored screw is loose as well.
