Will prices on the 200 model significantly drop in the used market?

Interesting perspective, guys. Thank you all for your input.

I guess the only other question I’d have is, if I were buying a LC over an LX, should I buy a normal mileage 2013-2014 for around 40-47k, or should I dish out 53-57k for a comparatively slightly higher mileage 2016+?

Depends on what you want. IMO the 16+ update looks 10x better, but that is reflected in pricing. Plus there are quite a few complaints about how the 8spd acts compared to the earlier 6spd.

I went with a higher mileage 13 to get HID/updated cluster/vented seats into a price range I could work with. Would have no problem doing the same for a 16 to get the more updated exterior and interior, personally. You can find some very clean higher mileage examples, and in terms of reliability higher mileage doesn’t bother me. These are toyota landcruisers, after all.

If you looking a good used LC in New England area, your selection is pretty limited. But at least you have 1 less potential buyer. I got mine 2013 in Feb 2019. :)

Been searching on/off for the last 4 years. 4 years ago, I was searching for 2008-2011. The inventory is very limited and most price out of my range. Last year, I'm actively searching LC again. My search is 2013 or newer. I can find a good used 2016 for 55k or more or 2013 for under 35k. I end up spending less and settled for 2013. Less spend = more upgrade. I will be spending the saving to mod the 2013.

The prices might be pushed down if this was a common car like a Corvette where they sell thousands. You are dealing with a car where they sell less than 10,000 a year many years. It is not common enough to be driven down like a common car on a redesign. Look at 80 series and 100's. They still hold there value well. The gap between and nice 100 and a nice early 200 is close and sometimes overlaps. I looked at a 2010 LX this weekend with 134,000 miles. I could probably own it for close to $20k . It was sitting on a small Honda dealer lot and not moving. The salesman said they were about 2-3 weeks away from sending it to the auction.

Just follow the dollars. A new 300 is very likely to be priced even higher than the last 200. That alone will drive the used market on 200's and 100's up. It has happened many times on other vehicle's no matter what the manufacturer is.
Don't wait.

That is a great point. The 2008 MSRP of the Land Cruiser was 64,000 (76,293 adjusted for inflation). The 2019 MSRP is 85,000.

Won't be surprised if the new one is closer to $90K to start.

That 2008 msrp is base - fully loaded was 72k if memory serves

Looking at 2014-2015 200 series, and more realistically at a LX due to the better deals that are available on the used car market.

I'll let the LC guys be LC guys. Just don't get caught up in what is ultimately their own personal preference and perceived limitations. Do your research. Many, myself included, enjoy it as an advantage and possibly the best feature on the 200-series. It will ride better, lift higher, and absolutely can be modded.

Here's an example on 37s and drop bracket lift.

And you...just keep being...you.

But anyway...

...I agree the LX is very capable off road.

But why is that guy with the 37’s hanging a tire...when he has that nice big smooth
line to his passenger side?

Hanging tires happen sometimes, but this shot looks more like he’s just hanging a tire for the photo.

That’s ok. But I’d imagine there are better examples of the LXs prowess than a goofy poser shot.

My little brother and I have both purchased 200’s within the last 3-4 years and love them. We finally talked our dad into buying a new LX570, we were at the Lexus dealer and I drove the 2019 LX, the 8 speed transmission seemed so work well. I am not really sure why there are so many haters on it?

Also, budget mods! They add up fast:

Front Bumper $2,000
Back Bumper $2,200
BP-51’s installed $4,500
Snorkel $500
Winch Warn M12 $1000
Lighting.....
Etc....
I have easily topped 10k in mods a while ago....

Just bought another 100 for my son, that is the new build now for him.... never ends

The only people you’ll see complain about an 8 speed don’t own one. Nice fleet btw!

I read a cruise control thread the other day with two people saying they hate how it acts.. not to mention all the complaints preceding the software update (and some after).

I’m not sure whether it’s just people being too picky, but at least some current owners are definitely complaining.
