For a while now I've been meaning to pick up a new oil pressure sender and a couple rear u-joint kits. I like to buy this sort of stuff OEM from Toyota. With kids/work/life, it's next to impossible for me to make it to the Toyota Parts dept during their open hours. Today I finally had an opportunity. I've cross referenced the Prado parts to an FJ80 part (same oil press sender) and an FZJ80 part (same u-joint kit). I don't bother bringing part numbers, because in my experience they can never find the part numbers I bring in their system anyhow. (Even though they are the standard Toyota OEM part numbers all freaking over the web).

As chance would have it I'm sick as a dog today with the latest chest cold going around. I'm feeling pretty miserable. I pack my kids in the car, give 'em some snacks, battle Saturday morning shopping traffic and finally arrive at the new Toyota building. Takes me forever to find a parking spot, and even longer to figure out where the heck the parts department is in the massive new four storey building (3rd floor...). Pull my kids out of the car, haul them up the stairs finally find the counter.

There is no bell. I stand there for a good 15min. My three year old starts fussing at the long wait. Finally someone shows up.

I have a strong feeling I'm in for an epic fail. I'm right. I make the mistake of telling the parts guy I've got a JDM rig and need a couple parts. I tell him I've already crossed the parts to North American land cruisers. He asks me if I have a part number. I say no, I can just tell him the year/model of cruiser the parts will work from. He says he can't do that. Says he can't take responsibility for me figuring out the parts. I think to myself, "how is me bringing a part number any different?" He refuses to look anything up or sell me anything. I say, what if I tell you I have a couple north american cruisers? He says, "that boat has already sailed." I tell him I'll take my business elsewhere. I'm fuming mad by this point.

Why can I not buy Toyota parts from a Toyota dealer for my Toyota? What is so hard about this? FAAACK!!!!!!!!!! :bang: JDM rigs have been getting imported to Canada for over 10 years now and Toyota still has not figured out a system to supply parts?

So, I guess I'll buy parts on the web and get hosed by the US/CAD exchange/shipping. Or I'll call burnz up at Duncan Toyota and see if he can help.

End Rant.

Call Burnz. Good rant by the way ;), not nearly enough profanity for me, but C+ for effort!!

Toyota Duncan seems to be a go to place for me, back a few years there was a lady named Darcy who
was the parts guru. She was there when I first got my 40 -1997 whoa!!, I heard she went to Victoria
to work at Toyota. That's a long time ago,

Anyhow, "Jim Patterson Duncan Toyota, Blondie speaking, how can I direct your call....." I want to hang
up after I hear this stupid long winded message, but wait it out and ask for parts or Sean directly.

Thanks Jon. Yeah, I wanted to put some profanity in there, trust me.

Haha, thats funny, I remember Darcy the parts person when she was in Victoria. She was great for sure. That was back in the days when I had my AE86,AL25,KP61,MX73,AW11, etc. All good old Yotas.

I have had problems with metro before.. always need a Vin number which doesn't match for a 2f engine... I usually have to argue with them and then it ends up being I have to pay upfront and no return policy on special order parts..

I do feel your pain.. but I never even thought of going to Ducan toyota.. I will have to hit them up when I need something...

So you walked through the building and up the stairs to get to the parts department??
U can drive up to it...

Its like crossing the border. Do NOT volunteer information.

Perfect analogy. I'd like to say now I know for next time...but there won't be a next time at Vic Toyota.

Wow....just wow...
pm me nic ill give u my number, its so much easier.

Thanks Sean. I'll be in touch for sure!!

Yeah, our club has an 'inside man' (burnz) at Duncan Toyota. Totally a great guy. I was just trying to avoid the drive to Duncan. Last time I'll make that mistake...lol.

Yeah, figured that out after the fact...haha.

That sucks getting service like that, do you know who it was you where talking to? I know one guy there who is quite good.

same here. Its been hit and miss with toyota for me, sometimes its better service and prices (believe it or not) than anywhere else, other time i just leave never wanting to ever go back

The most amount of parts ive gotten from Toyota Victoria wass oil filters (apparently, I bought 2 and had consequently cleared the WHOLE NORTH AMERICAN STOCK of oem filters for the 2H) and a relay rod + linkage (which turned out to be for a RHD 60 series and didn't even fit!)

Frankly, I get more enjoyment rolling up in my rusty, dented up HJ60 making all the noise in the known hemisphere and laughing at the salesmen's cringing! :flipoff2::zilla:

I got to know one guy there pretty good and has been excellent to deal with, actually got me a set of OEM BJ42 fenders at a great deal also.
I tell him what i need for a 42 and returns my call when convenient and with a discount. Fantastic guy, PM me and i'll give you the info.
I last spoke to Darcy about a year ago, was a little hard to deal with at first but over time got better. Familiar with 40/42/70 stuff, and she used to drive an old 42.

X2 on Burnz. Save yourself the headache. Also ask nathinel (the morb) for his vin# next time you are forced to give a vin for an 80 series (interchangeable parts).

Is Darcy still there at Toyota?

X100 for Darcy, she has helped me several times over the last 20+ years I've owned mine. She hasn't required a vin like some of the others... It's a real pain when they want a vin to buy wiper blades... And even more for all the non-stock parts on my '57'.

Don't get me started on the place as a whole... I've been told I should've bought a Lexus if I wanted service... And had bills for service work refunded because everything I could prove they'd done wasn't done, even though I was billed for it. I'd never buy annother car from there even if it was the last car dealership in town. It's worth the drive to Duncan. They couldn't even tell me the cost to test my 12v Prius battery here, and in Duncan they offered to test it for free.

Damn, that sucks Nick....

Nanaimo toyota after years of me buying parts still suck arse badly...

I once complained to the the parts manager that I could buy parts over the boarder including shipping and duties for less than what they charged.. The parts guy was a little peed that I went over his head, but told him I was giving him a chance to do business with me if they were close to being competitive.

Shoot, they use to borrow cruiser manuals from me, not even a burger or beer from the cheep tards..

On another note, how was the compression?

Rob

Metro toyota wouldn't sell me the replacement light bulbs for my dash buttons when I first bought my Cruiser!
