Yep, have a buddy that posted that on his Facebook page over the week end.

Good. That will keep some of the riff raff off the road. Trying real hard to find a silver lining…

I'll have to call ahead and see if I can't put some gas on layaway.
Make sure you tell them what you are driving so they have enough fuel saved up just for you when we get there.
I need a credit increase for my gas card so i can make it back home.

Well It's not looking good for me. I started what I thought would be some simple maintenance two week ago. oil pump seal and crank seal.
when I got the crank pulley off it had a groove in it.
Long story short the part number of the 80 is NLA, I ordered aftermarket one and the order was lost or delay. I know it was against my better judgement !! but it was supposed to get here fast. NOT
Any way I found that the LX450 part number is still available and how have it on order ( happier with the OEM part) but not sure it well get here in time.

Did you Guys think I could make the run in my bone stock 1st Gen Tundra 4x4 ? would you allow It ?
It's a low mile mint example and I don't want to beat it up.

Thanks in advance

Ultimately it's your call, but I got no problem taking it slow & easy.

Bummer about the parts situation. :(

First gen Tundra should not have any issues. Is it the access cab or four door? I’m bringing my mint first gen 4runner and not planning on coming back with any damage. There are a lot of mild trails in DV.

Access cab

I'm thinking I should replace my alternator. But it's only 25 years old!

:bang:

I keep a new brush kit in the truck in case we need to do a field repair.

...and extra fusible links, and a heater valve, belts, hoses, and a starter rebuild kit.

Now who's bringing an extra head gasket?

LOL

Same here. I think it's just getting weak. But could make it. Hours on the highway, even if weak can usually get a full charge. I also have all that other stuff for spares.

Not bringing a head gasket.

If it’s not leaking no need to replace it.

I beat ya, my 93 extra cab with 3.slow still got the original alternator @ 290k but the head gasket just recently started leaking on #6.:frown:
@surfpig @landcrshr I can bring a head gasket in a bottle if you like.;)

Nah, I'm good. Got one of those in the truck too!
Grounded black pepper works great too, old school mechanic showed me that trick before internet was booming.

@Broski Any update on your parts? Driving the stock Tundra should be fine as long you take it easy and have someone spot you in tight spaces. On our last trip we had a stock long bed Tacoma and HE 200 series and they made it just fine. @landcrshr Do we have a plan for next Saturday?

Looks like me & @SIZZLE will meet up in Livermore at around 8 or 9am and then head down I-5.

My plan is to drive as far as I can until fatigue gets the better of me. That might be 5 or 6 hours. Sorry, but age is catching up with me it seems.

Jawbone Canyon OHV area will be an option for camping out for the night. It's not much, but the camping is free and they do have (a few) toilets.

I think if we leave Jawbone by 8am, we should still have time to get breakfast in Ridgecrest and make it to Ballarat on schedule.

Parts came in super fast  and I made good head way with them yesterday. I hope to have it running today or tomorrow then it needs a little shake down time to make sure all is good.
