Who still makes a 2" receiver hitch?

So, I'm not hugely happy with my ugly 'adapter' I made to put a receiver-based bike rack on my ball-style hitch. It's strong, but it sticks out far and it's ugly. Plus, it's a breaker-bar-and-a-friend type of a job to get the adapter off and turn it back into a ball hitch if I ever want to tow anything.

I've been looking for a boring, regular 2" receiver that bolts in, and I haven't been able to find diddly. I only really need something that'll handle my bike rack, but I want something that's not going to fold like a taco if and when I ever have a trailer to tow.

Anyway, U-Haul claims to only have a 1-1/4" hitch, and it's pretty spendy for something that tiny, and they're basically the only ones that have anything bolt-in.

Should I be looking for a local trailer shop to just make me one? Should I look for somebody selling their old hitch?

I think that MAF one is for an FJ40, but I could be wrong. The other two, though, I could probably make work, and they supposedly have just as high a weight limit as my existing ball hitch...I'll have to look into that, because $25 is a hell of a lot cheaper than a full-on hitch.

I bought a used one off Cruiseryard for $80. It is badged as a U-haul but when I sanded it down for repaint I found Draw-Tight stamped in the metal. I suggest keeping your eye out for a used one, I couldn't find anyone manufacturing a new 2" one.

Kinda hard to see in this pic. But here it is

get in touch with Dave at 4plus products. Landcrusierwizard I think he is on here. He cut one off my 60 when we put on a rear tire carrier bumper. I bet he still has it.

I have a used weld in 2" i will sell. I will even weld it it in for you if you want to pick it up.

Ever make it down south of Seattle? I have one on my parts car I can pull off for a small fee, you would need to paint it due to surface rust. I think it is a draw tight, looks like the one above.

Geez, I couldn't give 2 of them away this year on the island. I wouldn't recommend welding it on,
always want to remove anything you put on. I'll look and see if I can find a part number. It would seem that the trailer places all only go back to 1997. I don't have the number any more. There must be people close to you who have removed or don't want theirs. Seems the first thing people remove for wheeling.

Yeah, I'm definitely hoping to figure something out that's fairly low profile as well as being cheaper than a new rear bumper. Right now, I'm liking the idea of one of the 'step bumper' style bolt-on ones, since I already have two holes in the bottom of the rear frame crossmember and bumper (one of the places where my ball hitch bolts on), which I can probably find something compatible with.

Also, I don't have anything *to* tow at this point, so I'm not too worried about strength.

I looked for a Class 4 hitch last year and ran out of luck.
I ended up buying a new Curt hitch which for some reason is rated as a Class 1.
Here is my problem with that. This hitch uses 2 bolts right next to the received to bolt onto the rear frame where the bumper bolts to. It also bolts to the side of the frame on the outside.
I have seen Class 4 hitches that don't look nearly this sturdy.
That hitch shown above that simply bolts to the back of the frame doesn't look that special.
While I don't like having a 1.25" receiver, I am confident that this hitch can accommodate what I will tow, which is rated at 2500 pounds.
I will make sure not to exceed the tongue weight of 200.
I am trying to baby this FJ62, mostly the transmission) so I wasn't planning on towing anything heavier than my motorcycle short distances.
The hitch is mostly for my kayak trailer.
So I suppose a Class 4 is overkill, but I still wish I could get my hands on one. Better overkill than underkill.

Just be glad you don't have my 1 5/8 hitch! WTF. Can find anything for that. They have an adapter for it to convert 2" then to put bike rack on that thing will stick out a foot!

I'm pretty sure a hitch built to class 4 specs would still be rated class 3 on an FJ60. The manufacturer can't really a rate a hitch beyond the auto builders advertised tow capacity. No matter how beefy you build a hitch for a mini cooper it would probably still be rated a class 1

And yes, the hitch we make shown above is intended for the 40. The 60 cross member won't support the load. the only hitch we make for the 60 has a bumper and two swing-outs attached

I have one I'd give to you but you are too far away to pick it up. Anybody near NC need one give me a shout.

Would the class rating be based on the engine's power or the strength of the frame?
Ive seen 2" receivers on Subaru Foresters.

I have one installed that will be removed soon when I buy / install a rear bumper. If you're looking in a month and have not sourced one you can have mine for the cost of shipping from 91350 CA.

What's truly funny is to look at European tow ratings vs. US. The Euro car, which is identical to
the US in every way EXCEPT that it has a SMALLER motor will typically be rated to tow about
TWICE what the US car is.
Logic being, US lawyers are at least twice as rabid as EU laws will allow,
and your average EU holidaymaker is a lot more tow- savvy...
