I am going to order sliders for my 94 FZJ. I have narrowed it down to White Knuckle or Rocky Road. Anyone with good or bad on either brand. Slee and Metal Tech are out of my price range. 4x4 Innovations does not make them for the 94 FZJ.

I've not seen much ih8mud action with the Rocky road sliders. They look stout for the price. Anyone running hem? White knuckle look good, too.

The Rocky Road sliders are TOTAL GARBAGE!!! I have them right now and horribly regret buying them. The outer hoop only attaches in the middle with some flat stock and is bent on both sides. The duel cat skid is a total joke. I crushed it on the very first obstacle. I didn't even slam the skid. I slimply slid it up onto a boulder and the skid just crushed in from the weight of the rig. I smashed both my cats and now they rattle and i have a bad exhaust leak. It also caused two of my 3 rubber exhaust hangers to be ripped off causing my exhaust to hang down and rattle on the frame crossmember. The actual arms that connect the sliders to the frame are made with thin 1" square tube. Those mounts are totally useless and don't even slow the sliders down from just bending and slamming up against the body when you drop down onto a rock. The frame attachment points are also horribly thought out. The exhaust skid is literally just suspended in the air with no support on the far side. I had to weld the skid to my drop brackets just to give it some strength on that side. Both of my sliders had a decent 1/2" gap between the slider and the rocker panel. Now they are smashed up against the rocker panel. I have had to add plating, more tubing, bolts, additional welds, and new hardware in multiple places to make them functional on the trail. I could have bult a WAY better set for 1/3 the cost. The RRO sliders are the biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased on any of my trail rigs. If you call in and complain about the quality their response is, "Well... what did you think would happen to them when you hit them on rocks." WTF!!! They are ROCK SLIDERS!!! They should have been designed to be smashed on rocks with no ill effect. Long story short; DO NOT buy the RRO sliders. You could make a better set with some pvc pipe and super glue. They say they are super beefy. That is a total lie. The main tube is 1/4" wall (trailer hitch tube) and strong but everything welded to it is a flimsy joke with ZERO effort and thought put into function and strength. Can you tell I'm not happy with the sliders?

Wow, I'm glad I asked. I really appreciate the response. I don't want to buy something that is not going to do what it is supposed to do. Thanks

I cant comment on White Knuckle's 80 series sliders, but John sent me a set of his 40 series for a raffle that we went in on. WOW. They were AWESOME!!. Very stout and well built.

I love fabricating my own things. That said, one of the best purchase for my 80 was the set of sliders John made for me. They were beautifully welded and sturdy as heck. +1 for wkor.

I REALLY wish I had gone white knuckle. I guess hind sight really is 20/20. If you look closely at the pics of the sliders on the RRO website you can see that the skid plate is rather thin. I made the assumption (since it didn't show in the pics) that it was well supported all around to spread the load of a big hit. I was very wrong. The skid has no support on the back side and just folds with the slightest impact. I understand now why they don't actually have any pics of JUST the sliders so you can actually see the overall design. They are very good at cropping the pics so you don't quite understand the mounting and engineering that went into them. You know it's junk when you can pull the skid back into place with one arm and a cheapie 18" pry bar from harbor freight. You can also see in the other pic (way up in the far left corner) the tiny 1" thin square tubing they use for the mounts. What a joke!!

I have a 94 and my White Knuckle sliders are the best thing I got so far...Very solid and they will work with drop down brackets. John is a great and knowledgeable guy.. And if you live close you can pick them up,save on shipping. They will fit in the back with the seats down..lol

there is a group buy for rock sliders going on right now....look for socalove's postings

another cheap option.

80 series sliders are labor intensive, much more so than the tacos or 4runners. I would be careful with a group buy like that, ask some of the Copper State Cruiser members how they feel about slider group buys.

I am not sure if "cheap" is a good word. MetalTech has quality products as does WKOR, so maybe "less expensive" would be better. To me, cheap is something you get at harbor freight - a low cost item that is of sub-standard quality.

However, you bring up a valid point that I want to reiterate. Cost is always going to be a factor when purchasing anything, but I would not just assume the lowest price is the best option. look at bhicks and his frustration (that stinks dude).

Figure out what quality you want, determine who builds a product that meets this criteria, and then see who has the lowest price based on this criteria. The last thing anyone wants is to have their sliders fail, causing damage to the rockers and thousands of $$ in damage, because you chose to save $100-$150 because it was "cheap".

i've had the white knuckle sliders on my rig for just over 2 years now. they're holding up great!

I run the third set of White Knuckle's on my 100. It's a heavy rig, and I don't take it easy behind the wheel. The outer tubing is dented and gouged and the hoop is beaten in. Needless to say, they haven't budged, or flexed into the body. They are stout, priced well, and built like no other.

White Knuckle - update

Well I ordered the White Knuckle and man are these built tough. I installed them yesterday and they fit great. They are very solid and feel very confident they will hold up. I will post pics as I field test them.
