so... painter (moving slow) called me today to say... 012 Cygnus White looked AWFUL. He said it looked green. WTF?

the mix called for:
318 strong white
24 grams yellow
14 grams strong black
1.4 grams green blue

the other whites he had had yellow, black, and blue, but 1/10 the amount compated to 012. Do you guys think the book is f-ed up?

I had this discussion with the guy who painted one for me. When he did the white first, he thought it looked awful. The Cygnus White is NOT a pure bright white. Maybe the Cygnus is not a classic white, but it IS what was used from the factory. When it is done, I think it looks right. Check out the finished product on the FJ55 Desconstruction thread.

thanks jason. I agree that Cygnus isn't bright white. But, they said it was green.

So... at the time... did it look, green? greenish? I'm going down tomorrow to see a paint stick. maybe it's just bad light? but maybe sherwin williams computer has the code all miffed up? I'd hate to give the go ahead and see the finished product be too green.

So... went by the paint shop this morning. i'm thinking sherwin-williams has the ingredientes miffed up. that color looked really green. They kept shrugging their shoulders... so finally I went with 033 White (which is FJ60 white). I think it will look fine... and I can get touch up spray cans of it from Duplicolor.

Is Sherwin Williams making this by code, or are they trying to duplicate an old paint chip?
When they use the code it should be right..
