Anyone know what the ZDDP is for the Rotella T 10w30? I have not been able to find any NOA/UOA documents on it.
And I have been able to get it at NAPA for $17.99/ga plus a NAPA Gold filter costs me less than $50 out the door (with my AAA card). Truck has been liking it so far, but just in case I have been adding a bottle (16oz) of Rislone ZDDP Engine additive.

Just an FYI for you cheap-azz Cruiser heads (like me)

At O'reilly's. $35 for TWO gallon jug. Syn blend. 1500-2000 ppm ZDDP.

Part#: JT8-15-50-2

With a WIX or Baldwin filter, you've got a $50 quality oil change for your obsolete motor (including Gubbament tax)

The 50 weight oil isn't too "heavy"? Seems awful thick, how does the 2F run with this oil?

EDIT

Oh wait this is Synthetic blend..... my question still stands :)

Looks like it is available in 15W-40 as well.

I used to run 20/50 all the time.

Yeah, they have a 15-40 and a 10-40 also, but I don't think the zinc levels are as high. 50wt is fine for summer or year round in So. Cal. :grinpimp: But that's why it's a MULTI-viscosity. The 'W' in the viscosity rating stands for 'Winter', not weight. So the oil is rated as a 15 wt for winter, 50 for summer.

Thanks for the info @Spike Strip and @Mace

I may give that stuff a shot come summer time. Or maybe next oil change...

That reminds me. I saw THIS engine oil in Walmart. I just tried google to find the Zinc content, maybe y'all are faster than me. It's Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W40.

I found the MSDS by seaching on Mobil's Website after selecting USA and typing in "mobil delvac 1300 super" in the product box, but I can't interpret it from there.

The ratings on that oil suggest it's prolly 800-1200 ppm, zinc compounds. There are no oils at Walmart, currently, that are right for a 2F, out of the jug. Some will disagree, and the Rotella or Delo will be ok with frequent oil changes, but I try to find stuff with more zddp or in a pinch, I add some.

Mobil Delvac MX is the one to get, if you can find it.

After reading hundreds of posts I decided on Mobil1 and 1.5 bottles of ZDDPlus.
In winter I run 0W-40 and Summer I use 15W-50.

I have used Rotella too. I like the price.
If Mobil1 at Walmart wasn't so cheap, I'd use Rotella all the time.

Find it local, I meant. The added cost of shipping gallons of sludge gets you into the range of Amsoil and Penn and the others.

The stuff has up to 2500 ppm zddp, putting it up there with racing oil. It's supposed to be for off-road heavy equipment only. Yeah, right.

Don't forget Caterpillar Equipment oil which has 1400-1600 ZDDP's. Any Cat dealer has it in stock and the price is fair.

Part# - CAT DEO (248-7518) 15w-40 SL

I have used it in my 3f and diesels engines.

FYI, I was at the Cat dealer today and the part number has changed. It is now 291-3866. Appears to be the same stuff, still SM/SL rated. Guy at the counter just said it was a PN change.

New(ish) Oil 1524 PPM zinc. About $25/gal.

AMAZON

@FJ40Jim so in your opinion what oil is best in a synthetic and conventional? What do you run Jim? I have been running the Mobil 1 15W50 virtually year round due to its zinc content............

The Mobil1 5 quart jugs at WalMart are the deal. Highly recommended in the 15w-50 flavor.

I recently filled my FJ60 with 2 gallons of Chevron Delo 15w-40 and 1/2 bottle of Redline "Break-in additive". I'll change it out next spring and may send out an oil analysis, though I don't care that much so I might not!

But it's all voodoo, and in the end, I think the Mobil1 15w-50 is the right move. It has become stupid priced at the parts store, but it's still reasonable at WalMart.

Doing a change tomorrow with Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15w40 in a 12HT. Have used it once before, not sure on it's zinc content but was on sale so grabbed 10L.
