I have a stock 87 4Runner with BF a/t tires, daily driver 75% hwy 25% off road. I am not interested in rock crawling; however, i frequent an area that requires me to go up a steep trail. Since there is little flex as the trail undulates and one of the tires spins it loses all traction. I'm tired of winching out each time and thinking lockers may help. I'm sure there are many variables but what is a good reliable locker for this vehicle considering how much hwy driving and the more basic the better (my theory less to go wrong but maybe not). Thanks, bobb

ARB or elocker. My elockers take awhile to disengage whereas the ARB's disengage fast. I run elockers because they were dirt cheap, and tend to be fairly durable in all but the most abusive situations (if you really push them, the side gear breaks).

Cheap and reliable would be a Aussie locker. My buddy bought one and we installed it in a day.
I have a lock right up front myself and so far it's holding up to 36" tires.

I wheel an 89 with an aussie locker, however most of my time being in north dakota is on pavement and you barely know the locker is there unless you are pulling into a spot at the local grocery store. Since mine is in the rear. As long as you have it set up right you run no problems running the aussie in the rear. And from what I have heard it is much more quite on the road then the lock right style locker. My brother ran a lock right in his FJ40 pulled it out after a month too loud I have been running my aussie for 3 months now and can barely tell its there. Just my experiences between the two. IF you don't want to spend too much money run the aussie. If you have the money for a selectable locker, run either the ARB or elocker. Funds were short on my end but am happy with my decision on the Aussie.
