I need to make a temp gauge for the transmission and therefore I need to monitor the outlet of the ATF fluid. I would like to splice in around the transmission cooler, but...

1. Which cooler hose is the outlet from the transmission? Lower one or upper one? I need to measure fluid before it gets cooled obviously.
2. Does the ATF exit the transmission towards the cooler first or towards the heat exchanger in the radiator first? The second scenario would complicate stuff.

For the 1FZFE engine and A343F ATM, the out (hot) line is the top cooler line of the pair of hard lines that run along the left lower side of the block. When you look at the pipes it makes sense as the top pipe is bent about 45 degrees pointing over toward the right side of the radiator where the line runs via a rubber hose. After the fluid runs through the "cooler" inside the bottom of the radiator it then leaves the left side of the radiator and runs to the auxilary cooler, then returns to the bottom transmission cooler pipe on the left side of the block.

Look for this hose (longest hose coming off the cooler pipes)
Right side in this photo attaches to the top pipe (which has a 45 degree bend)
Left side in this photo attaches to the 10mm OD pipe nipple on the right lower aspect of the radiator:
