Tire carrier was super easy to do. Four bolts hold the cross brace to the frame. They have nuts on the topside that have to be held with a wrench. Once you take the cross brace down, there are four bolts that hold the lifting mechanism to the brace. Take those off and the lifter can be removed. There is an E-clip on the end of the center shaft. Pop the clip off and the shaft will slide right out. From there take all the pieces out, clean them, paint them, grease them, and reassemble. Mine works like butter now.
This guy has some good pics of it disassembled.

The guy at work was able to clean up my threads on my housing. I should have got pics, but I got anxious and installed it. Everything went back together real well. Fingers crossed - No more leaks! I will refill the coolant tomorrow. And hopefully be back on the road!

Filled up the coolant after work today. Then we went for a little drive. It is nice to be back after a few weeks down. I figured the new fuel tank and lines deserved only the finest on their first fill-up so I drove to the little country store down the way that sells non-ethanol 93. Cruiser likes it.

Came back home and gave her a bath. I still have some air in the lines, I'm getting the gurgling in the dash. I'll have to "Burp" it again
and get the air out. At least I'm riding again though!

You need a 5 speed my friend!

Well, that didn't last long. Dang thermostat housing is leaking I used the paper gasket, RTV, and torqued to spec. Still leaking. Everything was cleaned up really well before install and allowed 24 hours to cure. Still, it is leaking around the mating area of the housing and the bolt heads, which I find odd. Oh well, tear it down and try again.

Johnny…
You know, upon buying my rig I had the H55 in my sights. After driving my truck for a while I have gotten quite fond of my 4-speed. It does turn a little higher RPM on the highway, but it's not too bad. I'm sure if I drove a 5-speed I'd be sold, but I'm fine for now. Can't justify that expense for one more gear at this point.

Its just not an extra gear.... its an adventure!

Tore down the thermostat housing again. Cleaned it up real good. Scraped it, hit it with the wire wheel, Block sanded both surfaces with 220, cleaned it, and cleaned it again. Also cleaned the bolts really well. Put it all back together with a new gasket and some RTV. Torqued to 13 ft/lbs. and went for a drive. Went about 10 miles. No leaks so far!! Hopefully I can forget about this project now. I am real tired of draining coolant! It should be nice and flushed now.

You are one dedicated cruiserhead!

Well, around 200 miles and no leaks on that pesky thermostat housing! I guess plaining those surfaces did the trick! All buttoned up now and I parked on a fresh piece of cardboard in the garage. I only have one tiny drip after a couple of days parked. It is at the very front of the oil pan. Guess I missed a pin hole size place on resealing. Oh, well… I can live with that.

Took a couple of urban cruiser shots roaming around my town saturday evening. A little grainy, but I still like them.

It's photo time again!! Took the 60 up to our cabin in the NC mountains over the weekend. With her new fuel tank she ran fantastic! Low and behold we found some snow!

Snow melted as we came down the mountain for our return trip home. This is one of my favorite spots in the valley.

Co-Pilot Garcia!
