Had to replace the transfer case in my 85 truck. Had to change the shift forks so the case had to be opened. Are gaskets available or do the RTV silicone thing.....?

Thanks!

Dave

there is also a guy on here that sells a rebuild kit for transmissions, but he also builds transfer cases too. So he might build you a gasket set and sell you one.

His company is MSR. i cant remember if thats his screen name or not, but I bought the whole kit from him for my transmission. top notch stuff.

Thanks, y'all!

I try not to use goo but sometimes it's unavoidable. I'll see if that guy can get some gaskets, if not, then goo it is.....:meh:

I would use RTV, or FIPG (00295-01281, Toyota's stuff) any day over a paper gasket on a transfer case.

Proof that there is no right answer.

Sure there is ... they are both right. Both will do the job. It comes down to personal preference.

Yes, that's what I meant to say.

Be aware that you can't use RTV on a Cruiser split case. It throws the pre-load off on the output shaft bearings. They are set based on the gaskets being there.

Thanks, guys!

So I shouldn't use RTV on an FJ40 case? Good to know as the '40 is next to go through.:D
