been wrenchin away on the nice days and have gotten the good motor out of the donor truck and it will be dropped in the white 60 this evening with the help of a couple friends. I got the donor motor running over the past weekend and it seems to pur nicely, let it warm all the way up and so far there has been no surprises.

now the challenge will be to get it running with aftermarket TBI on it. It all seems pretty cut and dry, looks just like the stuff on a GM TBI...

I have also been working on a front bumper in my spare time and on the rainy days...

I'll post some pics later today.

:bounce::cheers:

Made some good progress today, got the motor swapped into the white 60. Had some extra hands and she wiggled right in :D...

going back out to the garage in a little bit and gonna get the PS, alt, intake, header, etc back on it maybe try and get it started ....

Got a front bumper about half finished for it too. :D

overdrive unit

Anybody interested in the O/D that is in my parts truck?
If a there is any interest in i will try to get it out of the truck this weekend. Would be great if some one might want to trade for a decent set of 33's or 35's tires, otherwise make me an offer.

I live about 7 minutes from Kings Island if it makes a difference to anyone about the location..

Thanks
Chris

Hodgie, do you have the install manual for the OD? It has to be partially disassembled as part of the t-case disassembly to remove it from the transmission. I got the book if you need it.

Now that I think about it, best thing to do would be to sell as a unit: 4-speed/transfer/OD. Much easier to remove 4 bellhousing bolts and pull the whole thing.

guess i didn't finish my thoughts.

yea i have some paperwork for it but have not really looked at it.
I do want to sell it all together trans/TC/OD unit. Was just thinking some one might get some use out of it.

Oh yea... can't get any fire out of the dam thing, it's been pissin me off for about 3 hours now...:bang:

Time to work on the bumper some to relax my mind a little bit :grinpimp:

Yes, it would bolt in if it is earlier than 9/84.
Advantages:
quieter &stronger split case
lower low range
overdrive!

A couple of minor hang-ups:
t-case flanges may not match up with the very early 4-speed shafts you have. Solution: slip the ends off a 75-84 d-shaft into the long driveshaft tubes you currently have, resulting in a hybrid d-shaft.

No p-brake on the 81-later T-case. solution: keep using the brick you've been using.

Jim, would this OD/trans/transfercase work on mi 55 without alot of hassle?

It is in a 81 model 60.
There is a chance of rain tomorrow, if it does not rain i will try to get it out of the truck and post up a couple pics.

If anybody is intersted in any other parts feel free to chime in and i will let ya know. As of right now i want to keep the axles and what accessories i have still(water pump, alt, PS etc).

Oh yea... still can't get any spark...:bang:
Jim i will be calling ya sometime tomorrow...

Well after way to many hours of tracing wires, replacing parts and many headaches i have removed the TBI from the truck.

JimC has been a wealth of info while i have been trying to get the 60 running. Thanks again Jim

I think i need to re-name this thread to "what has made me lose my mind"...
Have checked everything i knew, and everything JimC has suggested about a dozen times and still no spark. :bang::censor:

Got 12 volts at the coil

there is around 150 ohms of resistance on the distributor

traced all the wires i could without removing the whole dash and found no bad spots and all ground straps attached

Any words of wisdom ?

Do you have 12 volts at the coil while it is cranking? Do you have a different known good ignitor to try? Is the ignitor getting 12v while cranking too (both need 12v and having 12v at the coil doesn't mean you got it at the ignitor). Is the lead from the dizzy connected to the ignitor? Is the ground good from the coil to the battery? IIRC grounding issues will prevent spark on these too.

Good luck!

Nick

been working on it by myself so have not checked the "while cranking" part.

All the ignition parts came off the parts truck where i had the motor running before i swapped it into the good truck. So i was betting they were all good.

I have all the chassis grounds connected and the ground for the coil is good. doulbe checked with multi-meter and jumper to neg on the battery.

thanks

Blacked out front

Got a little beauty work done, painted the grill and head light bezels black. I think i like the way it looks, I'll have to see it with hood on to be sure. Still have to do a little more work on the bumper before it will be ready for paint, but i think it is looking good. I need to heat it up and tweak the passenger side a little:doh:...

Your project is really moving along. Our 40 project is moving slooooooooooooooooooooooooo, [deap breath]oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!

Are you planning on keeping those stock rims on the brown one?

Are you planning on keeping those stock rims on the brown one?

I will not have need for the stock rims once i get it stripped down, or come up with something else to put on in place of them. Hopefully that won't be to far in the future. I'll keep you posted if you are interested.
