Where Did You Put Your ARB CKMTA12 (Air Compressor)?

Getting ready to install an ARB CKMTA12 air compressor system along with the ARB 4 liter air tank. I have the ARB bracket kit to facilitate the project. Has anyone managed to make this fit into an ARB bumper, which would seem to offer some advantages in terms of keeping it out of the way and limiting how far power needs to be routed to it? Other potential locations are more remote, such as the right rear fender or somewhere along the frame. Thought this would be a good place to collect examples of installs to assist others with their installs, along with the pros and cons of each.

I haven't done a compressor yet myself but I have seen some people install them in the engine bay near the cruiser control on the passenger side, under the passenger seat. Are you going to use it to inflate tires too? If so think about running some hard lines to the front and rear for air chucks.

I was eyeing the engine bay spot as it's the only clearly large enough space left in mine. However, since it hovers near the exhaust (headers in my case), I'm leery about the heat exposure, plus it's gonna be hard to reach underneath my relocated W/W fluid reservoir. Since I didn't mention it, you may not have realized it was there, though, which cuts into the space.

I'm running an eLocker in the rear I'm happy with and no plans for ARB lockers, so the compressors are really only aimed at airing tires. I don't want to have to think twice about airing up or down after the "incident" (see Crash Tested link in my sig line.)

I see where the Aussies offer a bracket to fit one under the drivers seat. Not sure that would work under a US-spec drivers seat, though. Also, pretty sure no rear heaters in most Down Under spec 80s. I use my rear heat and don't want to delete, but if the compressor would work under a left hand drivers seat, that is interesting.

The right rear quarter panel is tempting, but requires either the now-Delta VS bracket or some fab skills to DIY one in. I've got #6 cable back to nearly there running to my new Bluetti Charger II behind the passenger seat is already in place, so a few more feet to the rear fender to power the compressor would be easy.

Truck is back in the shop for final cosmetic repairs , but planning on checking the potential space in my ARB bumper when it's out in the next few days. I picked up one of those All-Top air-up/air-down gauge and hose kits, so having the compressor centrally located in the bumper would obviate the need for extra plumbing to an outlet chuck.

If you could find someone to fabricate a mount for the engine bay similar to an airbox or battery tray you could wrap it in heat resistant wrap. Also you could wrap your headers/exhaust too.

Worth considering in the absence of alternatives. Gotta be careful about too much wrapping up, though, as a compressor generates it own heat.
 
Not ARB, but I mounted a pair of compressors in my front bumper under the winch


Tight but doable. However, the ARB dual can't be split AFAIK. Nice set-up.
 
ARB dual in the right rear quarter panel (on Delta QPM) in both of my 80s. I've had air quick connects outside the vehicle and mine have gotten dirty to the point they're unusable after a few years. Now, I keep an air hose in the tailgate storage (aftermarket) and connect near the compressor inside the vehicle.

That's why I use threaded bulkheads on the bumpers so I can screw on a coupler whenever I need it

They also work great for shooting nerf darts ;)

i mounted an air tank under the winch inside the ARB bumper. I did this 21 years ago and this is the only pic I have in my computer but if you need more details lmk. Additionally, I use the sliders to hold compressed air as well. The more reservoir you can have, the happier your air comp will be.

I like that tank location. I've got the cute little 4 liter ARB one and will see how it does. If I need more, then it looks like you have proven space for a 5 gallon one, more or less?

I'm guessing this was made possible by a rear heat delete? Did you make your own bracket or buy one?

You can also use slimline tanks and plumb them together if needed (what I did with my Sienna)

Yes, when doing all the work for head gasket etc. I just wanted to remove a possible failure point. I don't camp inside the vehicle or use the third row. The heat is still extremely hot inside I don't see the need for it.

There is a company called scrubking out of Australia that makes a nice mount.

I don't think I can consider that tank a 5gal, more like a 2 or 2.5gal, maybe? It came from a '92 range rover air suspension system.
 
I use the Slee bracket in my ‘95. The early trucks require moving around or eliminating the pair valve if you’re also running the dual battery. Otherwise I reckon you can just mount the twin on the battery side of the bracket

 
I really like the idea of mounting an elec air comp under the front pass seat or inside the rear Q panel due to the lack of heat. Any elec air comps don't like to be heat soaked before running, and they slow down as they heat up while running. Sometimes it's unavoidable to place them in the engine bay.
 
This is the reason I put it inside. I didn't think the quarter panel would have enough airflow and I was concerned about my window still having a possible leak so I didn't want to put a bunch of wiring there. Maybe in the future I'll do some wiring. I've heard of ARBs dying but usually only when mounted under hoods.
