Where are you carrying your H20 for camping?

I was recently given this all SS can to field test. The manufacture claims all plastic water containers off gas contaminants when subjected to 100° temp. He offered and I plan to take him up on testing Water Bricks for contaminant.

I have 2 - 20L tan cans and 2 - 10L tan cans that I carry on my trailer. The 20L cans mount in front of the box, I normally carry 2 - 20L fuel cans, 2 - 20L water cans and a 30 pound propane tank in front of the box.

I'm aware of studies that show loss of weight of HDPE due to off gassing at temps above 100 F and that the products are grouped as 'volatile organic compounds' that aren't pleasant to breathe it (but which are responsible for that 'new car smell') but I've not seen any studies that the products of HDPE out gassing contaminates water or what if any effect it has on humans. I'd be interested to see what you find. Either way, that's a right fancy looking container you got there.

2 venders on the site were/are selling them.

I keep water for cleanup type duties in the quarter-panel of my 80 with a 5 Gal Flexitank.

(Not mine but identical)

Drinking water is normally mostly bottled water in the fridge + 7 bottles in the center console, and a 5 Gal Rhino can. I'll probably be mounting a shower tank on the roof this summer.

Dr Gill, do you have this? Is it good quality? I like the placement. The way I pack my truck, I feel like I'm always battling with that space behind the front seats.

Yes, I have this. I've been using it for about 2 years now. Very thick (whatever material) it's made from. Doesn't leak. For my needs it's perfect. I set one end of my sleeping platform on it. (I'll take some pics tomorrow)

So is there another outlet, or do you need to tip the one end up to get it to drain to the outlet? That might make a nice "pillow" when sleeping in the back.. With my head at the rear hatch, the cold air (when temp <40) rolling off the window give me a bit of trouble....

I see you are in WoHIlls......now that FR moved to Agoura.....

We tried the Scepter can and did not like it, I have one in storage. My jug of choice is the good old Colema cube jug. I like the shape because it packs well. I like that I can sit it on a table or the bumper and have an instant hand wash station. I like that I can replace the spigot for a couple of bucks when it gets grody. I like that it is cheap, even though we have been using the same two jugs for close to 20 years.

We keep most of the drinking water frozen in 500ml bottles which we use for the ice chest.

They're real expensive but Man-a-Fre had a clearance sale at almost $100 off so I bought one. It all comes as a kit. You of course have to drill two holes, but that's easy enough.

Do you strap down the water tank, or does it just sit in the footwell?

How do you guys deal with temp of your drinking water? I carry a 5 gal Thermos from my daughter's soccer team. It's not ideal b/c the top can leak and it doesn't pack easily; but it is insulated and a large 1/2 gal milk carton sized ice block will keep it cool very well.
In NC, we can see super warm temps anywhere from mid-March through November.

I like the jerry can solutions, especially for packing, but struggle with the idea of drinking water that is warm to hot.

^ huh? Your sig shows you have an ARB Fridge... Keep container or two of water in the fridge... That's what I do.

cheers,
george.
