I doubt you'll have a better chance to get an aftermarket rear bumper. Take the insurance check and do it - you won't regret it.
this is what I would do if I was in the mood to start moding the truck

Ended up getting the Slee bumper:

LOL. It's getting sold. I've got a 5-week old and Corvettes don't mix that well with kids and dogs. Honestly though, while I've liked having a Vette for 7+ years now, I actually prefer driving the LX. That said, I'm an amateur in my family when it comes to vettes...

You really need to be sure you and your wife are on the same page about your LX. If she doesn't mind the lift and "Truck" feel, go for it. I had the AHC on my LX and I sold it because I didn't want to mess with removing it and I had already lifted the LC. But the LX was a better truck with way better interior than my tired LC and I should have gone ahead and done it.

There is no comparison to a stock suspension and the OME/slee suspension. I was absolutely happy with mine. The medium spring 861 is good without bumpers but if you have swing outs go with the 863's or the slew springs which ride slightly shorter. I have a set of Slee springs for sale int he FM for $180 plus shipping if you decide to go that route.
