Yes, you would need to extend that wheel well over the forward wheel for it to look correct and tighten up the gap to the cab, but I really think you've got something there!

Well after much thought and soul searching... Changing course and no longer moving forward with the 6x6 project. Hopefully I don't lose to many followers now...lol.
Excited to utilize the M101A2 trailer bed and extending the wheel base to match the bed wheel well.
Fortunately the plasma cutter made short work of cutting everything of the top of the frame, flat bed mounts and fuel tank frame.

Once cleaned up, placed the bed back on and decided to keep the bed's frame attached to maintain the top part of the bed matching the body's window line.

Next I cut the third axle loose, and disconnected everything on the main axle and moved it rearward in place.

I really love the look of he extended wheel base and bed on it.

Cut the factory spring mounts off the frame and positioned them in place. Using reference points from original position, the wheel base has been extended 35.5".

Tomorrow will position the rear shackle mounts.

Dude, I haven't been on 'mud lately but this build is getting better and better. As others have said I think the long wheel base with the military bed looks killer. Even though I was looking forward to it, I'm not even mad that you're not going ahead with the 6x6 thing.
Coming along nicely, friggin sweet man!

I am sad to see the project be scrapped and going this route but none the less...still looks killer. Can't wait to see finished product.

She's off the stands and back holding own weight. Next is making room for the fuel tank and upper shock mount cross member.
Drive shaft flange to flange distance is 80.5". Hoping once the fuel tank is in there is a good place for a carrier bearing mount to utilize a two piece shaft.

Shocks mounted. I really wanted to use the bed frame's shock mounts but they were positioned behind the axle. To avoid cutting out crossmember sand moving them and making new upper shock mounts, I decided to swap my lower spring shock mount plates. By swapping left and right, it positions the shocks behind the axle and inline with the upper bed mounts.
I know now that parking brake cables now can be a problem, but I'll tackle that when I source longer cables. It was nice solving a problem without cutting and welding.

You can also see the brake lines are ran and working. Need to add a few frame clamps.

Rear drive shaft was removed. She's now mobile on front wheel drive.

Worked on the bed mounts. Wanted to use existing mounts on the bed frame to keep it simple. Re-attached my old rear frame section for bed mounts, hitch and winch mounting. Easier to reuse existing stuff that reinvent it.

After painstakingly measuring, stepping back, more measuring, lots of frustration, and more measuring, was able to position the rear bed mounts. front bed mounts still to come.

I am unable to reuse the stock fuel tank. There is no room forward of the axle that would not interfere with driveshaft placement and movement. Cannot mount behind axle because it would stick out past the bed 6 inches.
I will need to scour the junk yards and find a long narrow pick up truck tank to use.

Dude, go to the parts store and buy 20ft of new brake line and some clamps :flipoff2:

Are you going to make this bed dump as well?

The way I am mounting the bed I can easily still have the dump bed setup. If I don't now, it's easy to add later.

Mini-truck tailgate is WAY cheaper:)

I was thinking more along the lines of adding the lettering to this tailgate, vice grafting an actual one in its place.
