What's up with these tailights?

Is that the stock setup from a year I'm not familiar with??? or a custom job?

Given the increasing rarity of the stock lenses, etc. on pigs I've often considered just "shaving" the back and building a stout bumper with an FJ40 light cluster recessed into it. I've never seen this though.

ive never cared for them, i think it has much to do with the chrome ring? i dont know, i prefer the regualar square and i really dig fox's repros with the red/amber split.

Volkswagen did the same thing in the 70's with the bus... switch from small round tail lights to long rectangular ones just like the tail lights pictured on the pig above and in my opinion it doesn't look as good.

You'll also notice the tailgate is 78 and 79 only, doesn't say TOYOTA on it and a different shape.
