What would it take to meet your expectations for the new FJ?

I may be mistaken but doesn't FJ mean gasoline engine? A deisel FJ defeats the whole purpose?
What do I want? I want the inline 6 gasoline engine, dependable, great torque and easy to work on when things go south.

The original FJ designation meant an F or 2F (in the 40) motor under the hood. But it appears that Toyota has taken that designation system and used it as a brand name in this new car's case.

And a brand new vehicle that is easy to work on? Yeah right. Bring your computer diagnostic equipment on the trails with you...lol.

Yeah, Toyota putting a V6 in a vehicle with the FJ designation is a major faux pox... A V6 is nice because two people can change the spark plugs at the same time... :D If they were going to have a diesel version they'd need to call it the BJ Cruiser! As long as it is more off-road capable than the average Chevy/Ford/Dodge pickup truck, I have really no complaints. It had better have a manual option, a transfercase, and removeable hardtop and doors.

Oh, yeah, the standard 40 series steel bumper on the front, which has saved my little hide numerous times... :o

Nope...because it wouldn't be a B series diesel inside. If anything, it would be that D4D or something...making it a DJ Cruiser. Sounds like a Generation Why ride. :D

they work for many many miles before they need computer diagnostics, this is the year 2005 is it not...

Not. Miles are irrelevant to electronic issues, unless programmed failures are built in, 'course.

Wah wah wah,

you guys are all such whiners.

What don't you like. So it has a v6 with 245hp and 282lb/ft of torque.
It doesn't have a removable top, have any of you ever heard of a sawzall??
It won't have lockers, it will most likely have a rear and you can throw any of
probably 5 others in the front
It won't have factory winches, what the hell does??
It will have IFS, are you saying that no one makes a SAS for a taco platform??
It will cost too much, half of you are driving 50K truck
It won't hang with a Rubicon, but it will get you to the trail, run the trail, take
you home in the same day
It won't have a deisel, OK, I will give you that one
It won't be geared low enough, have you heard of Marlin Crawler??

Suck it up, The 3000 people who would use a trail rig would rather build it the way they want anyways. The other 40 or 50,000 sold each year will be more than enough truck for their drivers.

Trying to make friends in the forum, tucsonlx? ;)

I'll say it again: I think it looks like s***e, so I don't care how it's set up! :flipoff2:

Well, I guess if you think it is a little Fugly then don't buy one. I agree with most that there will be thousands parked in a high school near you. Kinda like a fj40

Lets just hope they offer a manual gearbox!

Cool! Huge posts counts are everything!!! Everyone will start to think I am really cool once i get to 8,000 posts. :flipoff2:

I would like to have seen both locking diffs and lower T-case gearing, other than that who cares. And the posted link prototype looks just like a fawkin Jeep - who's gonna buy that instead of just buying a Jeep. I would rather have something new and bold instead of haveing every dip**** ask me about my jeep, I get enough of those comments already about the 40 series.

Also look how many POS Wranglers and Cj-7s were sold until Jeep decided to capitalize on the current marketplace demand for the Rubicon. Millions upon millions of cookie cutter piles of s*** were sold before the Rubicon was even dreamed of, how can Toyota realistically be expected to produce a new platform to compete with the Rubicon? And if the 40 series was pronounced dead in 1980, what makes you think Toyota will bring back an exact replica in 2006?

Go back to drinking your Hatorade and sniveling about stupid engineers and know-nothing marketers and send hatemail to Toyota for being stupid, that should convince them they are all wrong.

A removeable hard top, Ambi doors, F&R lockers, sliders, Hood hooks, dual battery set up option, 60 gallon Long range fuel tank, AM Radio, jump seats, tool box under the drivers seat, roll bar, steel bumpers, heated transfer case for those summer afternoons, on board air, no a/c and how about removeable doors and a fold down windshield. Oh yeah and safari mirrors :)

I wouldn't mind any of those, but I'd settle for just a few!

Doug M.
