I a debating wether to lift my Pig 2.5" using with Redline or Cruiser Outfitters OME light lift. I was told that I need to saw the rear hangers off and relocate them to accommodate the new hybrid spring pack. My local Land Cruiser(mud member) doesn't think I should lift it and he doesn't want to move the hanger. So, What type of shop would handle this type of modification?
There is a local 4x4 shop that does a lot of work, but the last time I visited them a few years back, they wouldn't do the work for me because I didn't buy the parts from them.

Is the rear hanger the only part of installing the lift you’re uncomfortable with?

I installed the Cruiser Outfitters kit and relocating the rear hangers was not as bad as it sounds, I used an air hammer to knock the heads of the rivets off and punched the remainder of the rivet out with a punch but could have drilled the heads with a hand drill just as easy.

I'm not mechanically inclined, but am trying my hand at a lot of maintenance myself on this 55, but yes, I'm No where near comfortable installing a complete suspension lift.
Any pics of your truck with the lift and what can you say about it?

Not to take food of Kurt's plate.... With the difference in cost, it may not anyway, 'cause these ain't economical.

Always the "custom" bolt off, bolt on option.

If the local 4x4 shop doesn't stock the parts you want, they probably won't turn this project away. Or, check with a local alignment shop to see if they would do it. It's not a tough job for any old mechanic with a lift. You could also take Delancy's advice, or maybe just buy lift shackles with new bushings and shocks. That's what I'd be inclined to do.

I was told that by adding only lift shackles, it really screws up your caster.

That's what caster shims are for. However, my FJ62 has mild lift shackles-like 1.5-2" max longer than stock-without shims and it drives great. I rarely drive at high speed, but have had it up to 70+ MPH with no noticeable steering problems. Lots of people run them.

Which shackles and shocks are recommended with about a 2" Shackle lift?

I called that local 4x4 shop about installing the 2.5" OME lift and also re-locating the rear hangers. They quoted me $900!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the sty the little spot at the bottom of MUD where stories of $$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is a common place, I think of it as a meeting hall to share stories with other addicts looking to recover. BTW, you’ll need a tetanus shot soon.

I would check with Marksoffroad.net to see if his shackles work with FJ55. Not sure from his website listing that they do.
SOR sells them in three lengths. https://www.sor.com/CAT288.SOR?tabpage=TAB4
OME makes "low lift" shocks, at least for 60 series, that work with this set up. Cruiser Outfitters sell them. Outfitters may have shackles too. It's also the place to price and acquire the OME 70 series spring setup for FJ55.

This is why so many guys down here have learned new skills!

^^^^ This...
When I was lifting my 40 I did not have enough $ to qualify as broke, but I knew how to read, so I studied a lot on here and busted my own knuckles. It was a good experience, and I am proud I taught myself how to do it. I think the Mrs. was impressed as well by all the grunting.

I will say it again, if you feel you really want to be on 33s, give them a try w/ the stock springs. I am not a fan of shackle lifts. There is a lot of value to growing your Pig over time as you learn how to drive it vs. making a bunch of changes right away. Unless you have enough experience already to know how you will wheel your Pig and what you want.

just my 2 cents so take it for what its worth.
i purchased SOR lift shackles and it really messed my ability to control my vehicle. every time i hit a bump i was all over the road. so i went back to stock shakles and got a spring over lift. i couldn't be happier.

as far as who could do this kind of work. i found a local Jeep Shop that was happy to do it for me his price was reasonable but he took a long time but i couldn't be happier with his workmanship.

just my 2 cents.

Look at my thread, I'm no body man. Lol I am a some what trained mechanic. Dig in! It's only metal, it can all be fixed. Just if your doing something for the first time, make a check list. Check it off twice. If you need any help were here to help with guidance.

Were you running the lift shackles with stock springs or lift springs? Just curious...

i was running stock height springs. the springs have the yamaha logo on them which i found odd so i can be sure of that, but the ride hight was very standard when i bought the pig.
