Looking to upgrade the stock stereo and replace the 25 year old speakers....:D What size fits in the stock locations? What kind of mods have you made to make it sound the best?

Thanks!!

Dave

From the info I've found, I think it's 4" in the front and 5 1/4" in the back but I wanted to find out for certain before I ordered speakers..:flamingo:

Thanks!

Dave

I can confirm the 4" in the front but dont know about the back as mine is a std cab.

I am about to put in a set 6.5 components and will have a set of Pioneer 4" ers if you would like to have them-just pay for shipping.

They are about 1 year old I think and rated at 50w I believe. Sound Ok for a 4".

The front in-dash are a 4", but there are a "special application" speaker. Pioneer used to make a direct-fit that would pop right in, but I don't think they're available anymore (according to Crutchfield.com). If you try to fit most aftermarket 4" speakers in the space, you have to snip 2 of the ears off the basket, and bend one of the remaining ears.

You can put the most expensive speakers in the world in that spot and they will never sound good. There is no baffle for the speaker, no enclosure, so they will always sound "tinny". If you want better sound, you're gonna have to hack up your doors.

The rears in the Xcab (if the factory holes are there) are only 5". I have a really expensive set of 5-1/4" MB Quarts in mine now and they work very well.

Hi.

Hemi, I know you know this but for the sake of the board and future searches, the Pioneer direct fits are sold at Wal Mart. That is where I got mine. 25.00 or so.

Just an FYI.

If you want to confirm speaker size, go to Crustchfield and put in your truck specs. They will give you the specs.

ive got 6x9s in the rear however its not the standard rear position. they are sitting in the cup holder slots. the only negative to this is that when passengers sit in the back their torso completely covers the speaker. im considering moving the speaker up between the cup holder and the front seatbelts. this however invoves cutting the interior wall, but at least my passengers get their cup holders back.

they completely overpower the front speakers and im currently looking to get some 5 1/4" in the front. I really want to stay away from wiring it into the door. my only option would be the kick panel area which would involve a custom enclosure/panel. anyone done this? i think i saw 1 picture of this but the speaker was not the focus of the image so the details werent too visible
