Doing the modded blue install and have sprayed them numerous time with PB to no avail. They are starting to round and want to have new ones ready to go. Anyone have the size or part # from Fastenal, Mr T, etc? I'm assuming blue thread lock is in order?

Wow that was fast....thanks guys. I did give thought about the 12 point wrench but that's all my Gearwrenches and Crapsmen are. Can't fit any of my sckets in there.

We just recently added the OEM fan clutch mount nuts (90179-08040) as an option for purchasing with both Landtank modified 80 and 100 series fan clutches. Since you missed this add-on, PM me, and we will wave shipping with the purchase of the fan clutch mount nuts.

Thanks for the offer Josh but already have them coming from Fastenal. Its attn to details like this that will have me coming back to Josh. Imho they are an elite vendor that I highly recommend.

It almost looks like I can pull the clutch without pulling the rad shroud. I did use search but didn't see anything. Any pointers for this 2  guy would be great.

You should be using a 6 point box wrench on these. 12 point anything on these trucks is asking for trouble.
No locktite needed.

Why do you say that? I use snap-on 12-pt box wrenches and sockets on all of the fasteners on this truck just fine?

After wrenching on my truck for the last 20 years, I have replaced all my 12 point socket and wrenches with 6 point. They grip better, they don't round corners of bolts, they're a better product all around.

Yes, I still have some 12 point stuff like stubby gear wrenches, etc, but they can't deliver any real torque anyway.

I also mostly use 12pt, the 6pt thing is likely a rust bucket thing?

Thanks again Josh for the attention. I would have ordered a set when I ordered my clutch if they were available then. Fastenal down the street didn't have them, but local bolt house had them in black oxide. No luck finding zinc plated.

I use 12pts stuff too .. was under the impression that was way better ..

The nuts on the fan clutch are pretty soft, I had a hard time with my 12 pt craftsman wrenches. I was able to reuse them, but if I ever pull it again I will need new nuts.

12 points are way better at rounding off corners on stubborn bolts ;)
After you've been down that road 5 or 6 times, you realize that 12 points are a waste of time.

Just curious, but are you working with hand tools or pneumatic tools? I'm picturing my inventory of tools and although a lot of them are 6-point, most of my box and gear wrenches are 12pt and I have never had an issue with them and actually prefer them because if you need a wrench, you are working with tight spaces or are working on something that doesn't require much torque anyways.

I can definitely see where a 12 point socket on a hand socket wrench can round off some sockets due to the oblique angles that you are working with, but with a 3/8" air impact, the force is applied directly to the bolt head therefor minimizing any chances of rounding the bolt head. Regardless, both 12pt and 6pt sockets are necessary in the tool box, so I would not dismiss them both.

I've also found that good tools and knowledge of how to use them are integral to frustration and eventual rounding of nuts

Sorry for threadjack :grinpimp:

I ordered that part number from Toyota and the bolts that came are larger than the studs on the blue fan clutch I got from Toyota. Do you know if the thread size on the clutch has changed?

I just ordered some from partsouq they had them under 90170-18007

Those are not flange nuts. You really want flange nuts. I generally recommend 90179-08123. These have really nice serrations on the backside of the flange portion of the nut. Lock it into the fan clutch base.
