Was using degreaser to clean out the radiator and AC condensor fins on the 93 early this morning and got bored waiting for the stuff to work. Had a new blue fan clutch from Cdan sitting on the bench, so wondered if I could quickly install it. Turns out you don't have to remove the fan shroud, so in case this has not been posted yet, here's the fast way to do this.
Remove the two upper shroud bolts and don't mess with removing it - you'll just push it out of the way now. Loosen the 4 bolts holding the fan clutch to the water pump (don't even bother to loosen the twin V belts) and the fan and clutch together will come up and out the shroud at the right upper corner of the shroud. Takes about 20 seconds of gentle jiggling while pushing the shroud back gently. No force. With two people it would take 5 seconds. Then swap the fan over to the new clutch (4 bolts), and head back to the truck to install. I took the time to thoroughly clean the fan and the whole thing took 30 minutes including putting tools back. Since the belts are still under tension, tighten the bolts in turn so they evenly pull the pulley back square. Then go in and have a second cup of coffee while you wish you'd done the temp guage mod to see how the new clutch performs..... I just did it for PM because this is my much beloved Bessie and she leads a cushy life by design these days.
PS - with the shroud flopping about, this is a great time to clean the rad fins as you can spray first cleaner, then blast with water from the back side more easily and farther into the corners.
