Hi All:

I have been running Castrol 20W50 in my FJ40 (2F) for the last 7 or so years with no problems to report. I think 10W30 is too thin a grade of oil for an older design engine like a "F" or "2F" unless it was really cold!

Regards,

Alan

Valvoline or Castrol, usually 10w-40, though since I rebuilt the 77 2F (to fairly close tolerances), I have been running a semi-synthetic after the 3000 mile break in.

Castrol 20-50,even though it is almost $3/qt. I've used this in anything that resembles a truck engine since the first time I changed my oil as a kid. It works well (not like in my nissan that require 5-30W for the VTC to function properly in the cold)

Redline
20W-50
10W-40
5W-20

20w-50w Castrol with a bottle or two of Shiner Boch.

I wouldn't put Penzoil on my bicycle chain.

i try to stay away from oils with such a large span in viscosity such as 20w50 because they have to use so many polymers to "fill the gap" and that sort of leads to thermal break down and an oil with the least polymers is happier engine.

So what is YOUR recommendation?

lol is everything i say on these forums wrong poser? lol
-i'll go back into hiding

Hardly worth taking personal or getting defensive about..... ;)

You were expounding on a supposed inherent problem with “ large-span”, multi-viscosity oil and did not give any recommendation on what you suggest to use instead.

I have seen what the combination of lightweight oil and low oil pressure does to bearings in a Land Cruiser six; I will stick with my 15W40 or 20W50, thanks.
