I've seen these for other models on here and didn't see one for the fjc if it exists please tell me and I'll delete this thread.

In the past I've just gone to an express oil change and gotten them to do a synthetic oil change.

I bought a big box of toyota oil filters from the dealer since they said the fj cruiser and 40 use the same one. I figured I would start changing my own oil since a 100 for an oil change is a lot.

What oil do you use?
Which brand and weight and oil filter, mileage between changes and your total mileage.

Good or bad thoughts on certain motor oils for the fjc platform?

Figured a thread getting oil discussed for these could help out.

Nothing other than a full synthetic, Mobil1 or other on sale. I change mine regularly so I don't worry about it too much, as long you are using the Toyota filters, you should be good with most synthetics...

I use M1 5w30 Synthetic and various filters. Typically M1, Bosch, or Purolator filters. Whatever comes with the M1 for the oil special of the month. I do like Napa Golds though, and used the extra-super large size for a while (1515 I think), but it was SO close to the metal oil catcher that it was difficult to install and remove.

Also as far as changing the oil goes, the Fumoto valve is AWESOME. I can drain the oil AND the filter catch into jugs easily. NO mess whatsoever.

Couldn't agree more, great point. I have them on all my vehicles...

??? Not true! The 2F in your 40 takes a big-ass filter two or three times the size of an FJC filter. The thread size may or may not be the same (I've never looked), but the 40 filter would not fit on the FJC, and you wouldn't want to run the itty bitty FJC filter on your 40.

Amsoil signature series 5w-30, and their Ea series synthetic filters. I only use Amsoil because I can buy it in bulk; I used Mobil1 before that.
I am going 12-15,000 miles between changes. 160,000 on the truck, and it doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil between changes.

Toyota no longer makes the big filters and they are getting harder and harder to find so I went to a local dealer and the part number for the 2f filter nla now pulls up as the same filter as a fjc so I bought a case to save money.
From what I read on here and was told at the dealer was the filter is now the same part number for both. It's the biggest aval from toyota from what the parts guy told me.
I do have an 07 where the filter is easy to get to so a later model where they are in a tighter space may be a smaller one I'm not sure.

Mobil1 M1-102

NAPA Gold 1515

Amsoil EaO15

Three part numbers for the big 40 filters that I happen to have in my shop at the moment, if that helps you.

I got them on here a while back but thank you for offering.

Just throwing this out there
Do people put the big filters on the fj crusiers.
I'm going to just use the toyota brand I got at the local dealership for it. I've read the toyota filters have valves that can help with oil draining to the bottom of the motor. My fj cruiser gets driven about once every two weeks for about an hour. Im lucky enough to have a daily driver at the moment and wanted to keep miles down on my Toyotas

I started this thread to get people talking about what they think works best with their fjc motor oil. Figured I could make another thread in the future for the drivetrain oils. It's always an ongoing debate on these type of topics but often good info is shared.

Ie I put royal purple in everything including trans and I read on a forum similar to mud that the 6 m/t on theses doesn't like that particular mix in the trans.

Why so long between oil changes? Isn't 5-6000 mile intervals recommended with synthetic oil?

'cause I'm using top-shelf full-synthetic oil that's guaranteed to last longer than that.

5,000 miles is the standard change interval for conventional (non-synthetic) oil.

2010+ FJCs have a 10K mile factory recommended change interval, with 0W20 synthetic. And the oil filters are the cartridge type, not the canister.

Castrol 5W30 synthetic and Toyota filters since new.
I do my own changes and do them about every 5000km
(truck is used for a lot of fairly heavy work/towing so I tend to go overboard with maintenance)
450,000km later and it still runs smooth and quiet.

Haven't touched a thing on the engine except spark plugs, oil filters, air filters, pcv valves and one idler pulley.
(Likely just jinxed myself LOL)

Since new i've used Mobil1 5w30 synthetic and the Toyota filter on the FJC ... the 40 gets Castrol GTX 15w40 and the Napa Gold filter ... it just boggles the mind re people who choose not to keep their oil clean ... its cheap insurance ...

I run Mobil1 5w30 synthetic and Toyota filter as well
