Looks sketchy. Maybe it's the hardware? My last yota used a transfer case drum and my 60's set up was far too long ago to remember.

Do i ditch the extended portion and hook my cables back up? Thanks ahead of time

yes, I would ditch the extended piece. I've seen something like this when lift blocks are used. maybe your truck used to have them.
 
Thank you. Makes sense as the rig came stuffed with 33x12.50s on 12 inch (yes 12) wide wheels.
 
The issue is the circled part can hit the spring when you pull the parking brake. I have this same issue on my truck, only I don't have blocks. My Alcan springs are thicker than stock. That piece hit the spring and it wasn't enough to bind up the parking brake. Considering how long the extension is I suspect the theory of blocks is a good one.
