View attachment 1461325 Gauges wired and wagon wheels painted. Maiden voyage in my possession. Put about 5 miles in around the neighborhood. Feels good to finally drive her!

something about that rig looks bad to the bone. what tires and size are those? 4'' lift?

Felt like the truck was running cool too often, so I decided to check the thermostat last week - everything looked fine but as I began to tighten the bolts on the upper thermostat housing, one felt like it wasn't biting correctly, so I decided to replace all of it:

Also upgraded the 55/60w bulbs that came in my Roundeyes to 90/130w Hellas, so naturally I decided to upgrade the headlight wiring:

The output now is incredible!

Thanks guys! Its SOA with wrangler military OZ 36x12.5x16.5. Someone mentioned the wheel color. It's rustoleum dark machine grey

It's right at 7'. Luckily my garage doors are 8'. 7' doors you would have to deflate the tires a bit to squeak by

Got my shock towers welded on tonight, my front shackle hangers outboarded, and got my u-bolt flip kit from 4plus products installed. And I have to say, it's a very well built product!!

Tub interior taped off, sanded with 150 grit and wiped down with wax remover / cleaner / degreaser. Planning to mask off and shoot tinted raptor tomorrow evening then it's on to engine cleaning, gasket replacement and paint.

I really like how you recessed your towers. On mine, I was able to pickup the existing rivets holes, but now wondering if I should have gone this route.

Looks Great!

@SMG Thanks! I went back and forth on which way to do them, as I think I could've picked up the rivet holes also. I did have to notch the drivers side to clear the 60 steering gear box.

Head gasket, in August 2014 I installed a new long block 2f in my 78 fj40. In September 2016, while out in Jawbone CA, the motor started running warm it never over heated, but it was running warmer than I was comfortable with. Everything was fine around town, but if I ran down the freeway the cooling system would push coolant out of the overflow until it got low enough that the motor would start to run hot. Turns out that the head gasket was defective and the motor was pushing exhaust into the cooling system, which in turn was pushing the coolant out. I'm posting this in hopes of saving someone some trouble. The first picture is the old gasket, the water jacket hole is very close to the cylinder. The second picture is a new style gasket the water jacket hole is much smaller and round, it matches the water jacket in the head the old one matches the jacket in the block, which in my opinion is a poor design. The failure is at the #2 cylinder.
