Man you got some sweet rides!

Mine has the FJ60 power steering conversion also. It looks like you made a custom fender modification to serve as a mud guard on the PS box. I have been considering a similar modification - any chance you could snap and post a few more pictures of it?

Last week was a bad week. In the morning my '82 FJ40 failed smog, which can become a real pain in CA. I then decided to take my '80 FJ40 to the store and got T-boned by an old lady while I was backing into a parking spot. I think she hit the gas instead of the brakes. The impact pushed the 40 about a foot sideways. I wouldn't normally back into a spot but I did not want someone to grab my beer out of the back while I was in the store. The 40 survived with minor rocker panel, front fender, and rear quarter damage. It's a wheeling truck so I will be able to bend most parts back into place. I am just glad that she didn't hit my '82.

Mine was hit once, it’s an awful feeling

My Toy got it's picture took in the Wally World parking lot.
The woman that took the picture said she was from Florida and they don't see them down there.
I told her there were FJ40's in Florida and tried to tell her about mud but she wasn't interested.
I guess our reputation proceeds us.

Finally ditched the stock air cleaner and replaced the leaking valve covers. Also drove it to get groceries.

You should be selling those brackets if that isn't already in the works. Probably kit form with struts.
You can get them on Amazon with a 15" strut . All you have to do is cut two of the brackets to resemble the stock lower brackets. For the top you would just have to elongate one of the holes to be 2" center to center. Then order another set of struts at 20" long and 60 lbs per strut. I was wrong on the 37lbs per strut in my initial post. The cost is roughly $45.
If you still have your stock brackets just get pinned struts at 20" and 60 lbs per strut.

No need to mod anything if you buy the correct brackets. This mod has been around forever.

Parts needed.

JR Products BR-12553 10mm Angled Gas Spring Mounting Bracket Amazon product ASIN B000BRJQAC
JR Products BR-1020 10 Millimeter RV Hardware Amazon product ASIN B000BRF38Q
Then two of these at 50lbs strength.

Added the gas struts to the rear hatch. Tried the reccomended Napa 8195565. They didnt fit. Went back and they let me in the back to try and find one that would work. I found the perfect strut. 819-6176. Unscrewed both plastic ends, cut off the threaded end off the larger side. Removed the plastic spacer from the inside, insert strut, put it back together and it works perfectly. 20 minute job once I had the correct struts. $38.00 for both. I tried to upload video of working rear hatch , it wouldnt let me.

Went to the annual old car show and had a very pleasant surprise. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came across a stunning freshly restored FJ40, just sitting there. Wow! Only after perving it for about 10mins did I notice that it belongs to Grant Woodbridge and it dawned on me that I was standin within inches of the engine I have admired from pictures here on MUD. I got somebody to call him, got the bonnet up and got to see it in real life. Not just the engine, but every aspect of this vehicle is breathtaking. In the hour I spent chatting to Grant I was amazed at the number of people who interrupted to congratulate him or just to shake his hand.

It is a '78 German spec LHD, which ended up with him via Namibia. (Judging by the weird data plate I suspect it was probably used by the UN or some other government agency.) The colour is back to original.

The photographs are from my phone and do not come even close to doing justice to this vehicle.

Thanks Grant, you did an amazing job.
