It is relatively simple to replace the buttons…

The real trick is… use a flux pen, for precise application, and use a solder sucker. It makes it so much easier.
The desoldering iron has the sucker. Super handy!

Didn't quite "do" but today I did order all my timing belt bits + preventative. I'm honestly surprised everything was cheaper sourced on Rock Auto, even with the current 25% off sale through Toyota going on now. (All parts sourced were Aisin)

Got out and did some exploring and camping in Arizona.

I didn’t see the guy that was charging for the labor but I did see someone selling the “buttons kit” for $60 which is wild cause the buttons are like $0.30 each times however many you’re replacing plus like $5 for shipping.

It took me about an hour and a half using solder wick. Personally, this was super easy. Just a little frustrating if you’re not experienced at soldering which I am not but it’s got a learning curve so not something a novice should worry about.
Awesome thank you! Time to hit up Harbor Freight. Do you have the parts number?

The old girl is getting a new heart! I've had my 100 series for 20+ years and it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Nothing else has even been close. However, at about 205k, the engine seemed to be down on power and I began having an intermittent miss in the number three cylinder. At first, I thought it was a bad plug, or coil pack, but after changing those out, it started happening again within about a few months. When I checked on it, I found coolant in the sparkplug tube and thought, Uh Oh! Thinking it was a cracked head, or gasket, I took it to a well-regarded local mechanic who did a compression test and gave me the bad news. Heart failure...prognosis, new engine.

I originally thought about doing a rebuild, but the only rebuilder I trusted within 100 miles was 1.5 years out to get it done. As this is my work truck as well as fun truck, I needed it fixed sooner, so began trying to source a remanufactured engine. Turns out that wasn't as easy as you might expect. These engines are very stout, and don't fail very often, so few places could get one. Some of the shadier online vendors would say, online, that they had one and "Please give us your credit card number.", but when called they would say they didn't have one in stock and didn't know when they might have one. Finally, I talked to Dustin at the Powertrain Company in Oklahoma. He told me that they could get one in 2-3 weeks, and it would take another 5-7 days for it to arrive at my mechanic's shop in Hillsboro, OR. I plunked down around $5200.00, including a gasket set and an extended warranty and waited...

Just FIVE DAYS later, my mechanic called to tell me he had a bright shiny box containing my new engine at his shop! Instead of 3-4 weeks total, the engine was there in less than a week.

So, my cruiser is now at Middleton Motors in Hillsboro and they are in the process of doing the swap. During disassembly, the radiator was found to be in poor shape with a lot of corrosion, so that is being replaced along with a number of hose fittings, sensors, etc. The harmonic balancer had also been damaged, by me, when I did the timing belt service last year, so that is being replaced as well. It probably would have been fine to re-use it, but better safe than sorry. (I'm asking for it back, so I can hang it in my shop to remind myself that I'm not always as clever as I think I was:) Be careful with these bits as they will set you back around $450.00. All in all, it will be around $12-$13k when completed, including the engine, new radiator, harmonic balancer/pulley, and miscellaneous parts.

Good to go for another twenty six years....

...Fingers crossed!

Out with the old (O2 sensors), in with the new. I have a P0171 code that keeps coming up, and I haven’t been able to identify any vacuum leaks and cleaned my MAF sensor and throttle body first.

Thought it was gonna be a challenge, especially considering I only had a 7/8” wrench, but easy work, only took about 15 mins. Neither side was torqued down at all.

On wednesday I took off the OEM rack to prep for installing the Prinsu Rack. I'm glad I broke it up into two different days. The bolts for the front and rear supports came out pretty easily, but the bolts for the centre supports were rusted and necessitated the use of an extractor.

Last night, I installed the new roof rack. The only time I wished I had a second set of hands was when I was putting on the paint protector. It's a little cattywampus, but it is on so there's that. Other than that, it was pretty uneventful. Its not the best picture, but this is what I took this morning.

Why they didn't use some stainless bolts from the factory IDK. I just replaced mine last weekend with some.

Those original bolts are a PAIN! Can’t find replacements for them, either!

Finally got this done. It’s my son’s car now but so happy. Got it from Rhino Radios. I ordered the one for 98-02 LC100/LX470 but they sent the one for 05-07 LC100. Installer plugged a few things in wrong but I had him leave it in for me to figure out. Mainly the climate controls were not working. Rhino walked me through the correct plugs and one of the 05-07 model software worked for it. We did lose antenna and defrost mirrors. Other than that seems all good.
