All of the sudden noise when I'm braking. Took the wheel off and followed some youtube instructional vids. This is my first time having a crack at brake pads but now it looks like I'll need to replace rotor as well. Going to have to look at the other rear wheel too. A little bit surprised this pad wore all the way through before it started making noise.

It’s fine so long as it’s supported properly using correct equipment.

cleaned up the battery terminals, went ahead and tackled the MAF and TB cleaning as well. Wife was laughing at me when it didn’t start on the first crank. Sort of staring through the window with a smug look.

Totally possible someone didn't install new "squealy things" (I believe that's the technical term) when your pads were last done. The squealy things are separate parts--I in fact put my pads on without them, realized I needed them, and now they're sitting on a shelf waiting for me to completely forget about putting them on. . .

Mine had them but I completely ignored the squealing sounds until I was metal to metal and was then all "oh, so that's what that low-speed squeal was . . . "

Changed up the suspension for more of an after work DD. Had it setup for camping, hauling family, dogs, gear, and trailer. Since my daughter got her DL and is driving my tacoma now, the heavy suspension on the LX was a bit too stiff for running around unloaded. I Installed OME tb's, 863J springs, and an Air Lift 1000. Smoothed thing out quite a bit. Still running the 53mm and 45mm TD shocks. Would like to find some 41mm TD shocks for the front.

God I love this forum. So now I completely understand what these are and that you are 100% right, they were not on the car when I removed both pads.
Hoping I can atleast get the pad support plates from NAPA today.:)

My 105 did the exact thing, no sign of bad or worn brakes until the grinding started all of a sudden. Rears are easy on these, front rotors took a bit of man power and heat. Give your handbrake a couple of turns while the wheels are off too!

Thanks for the tips. Yeah looks like the squeel shims are gone for sure. Will check out the wear on the drums too! Just picked up 1xRDA gen3 rotor for $75 from NAPA should go grab another and do both. But tossing up buying better quality ones in future maybe DBA although I have no idea what the differences are. These look ok. $75 for Bendix pads for both rears. So tempted to do both rears now.

Really wondering what would cause the inner side brake pad to wear unevenly on an angle. Perhaps a result of the missing squeel shims as well?
Or is it just the metal on metal outer rotor/worn brake pad causing it. I suspect the latter would cause more of this type of wear

Actually, the part I'm talking about isn't even in that diagram. Those are the anti-squeal shims, which just keep things quiet, but, yes, should be on there, so glad you noticed that. The "plate, pad wear indicators" are little metal clips that attach to the side of the pad and then start making a racket when the pad's worn down far enough that they contact the rotor . . . 47771A in the picture below.

I guess the 1998 didn't have that part going off my previous diagram. Makes me even wonder if those squeel shims are for the 105 RH Au cruiser

Alignment today, lets see how long it stays in spec...

Sticky caliper bolts/slides. Make sure you clean and grease them during install.

Re-did alignment at localish chain (Big O). Cruiser Outfitters uses this one for their builds, so I was hoping they spoke Cruiser. In fact they did, aligned within spec, no issues. Asked about all the issues Firestone found with ball joints and CVs - nope, everything's fine.

Oh, and what's that in my email from Bridgestone corp? A survey?

New OEM LCAs.

OEMpartsource.com doesn’t know how to pack things though. For $651 you’d think they’d bubble wrap them before tossing them in a box with wadded up newsprint. Unsurprisingly, they banged against one another during transit.

UPDATE: OEMpartssource acknowledged their mistake and gave me a $100 💵 refund. +1

The best part? No castle nut or cotter pin included. Thanks TOYOTA 😩
