Well, I've been trying to find a 45 for a long time. A friend of mine turned me onto this one and I think it's a good deal. I don't know much about cruisers (I joined TLCA back in 06 to start the learning process) So, I'm looking for your guys' opinion.

I posted some spy pics of this on pirate a while back asking about the condition of the tool kit pics to see if they were period correct. If they're not, it's not a big deal. I just viewed it (The tools) as an added bonus. I'm not looking for a museum piece, just a clean rig to start with. I plan on adding disk brakes, power steering and a small lift 2-3" with 33"s on the stock wheels.

First off, I know the bezel is upside down . With that being said here's the story of the rig. It's owned by the owner of a Toyota dealership and he had it restored. I can get it delivered to my house for $18,000.00.

Give it to me as you see it. You know as much as I do about the rig. I'm not looking to make it hardcore (I've got that covered) I'm just looking for a solid 45 to drive around and enjoy with easy off road use i.e. dirt roads.

It needs a heritage bed/tailgate combo.

Oh and when I get it, the aqualu bed/tailgate will be for sale for $2500.00 obo. It needs a heritage bed/tailgate combo.

My $.02

It is nice, but $18K for a restore that is not 100% steel, seems high to me. Or maybe just higher than I would pay. If you like off roading you are going to graduate from dirt roads to lesser traveled trails, and on.

If you just wanted a cool truck for road use, then maybe, but $18K for something that you want to still modify and use off road?? I would take that $18K budget and build something nice from an $8K truck an have money to buy your significant other a few things to get on their good before the addiction fully sets in.

I love off roading. I've got that covered with a hardcore custom built rig. The 45 would be for light stuff like fire roads, Pismo, Black rock desert and of course...the bar.

I've got full support from the GF, so that's not even playing into this. I think by the time you buy a sub $10,000.00 truck, put some heart, sweat and backbone into it, your going to be way over the price of this one.

I know me. If I buy a roach wagon (Non original) it'll beg to have an LS2 in it.

I appreciate all of the input and different opinions. Keep em coming.

This truck has been for sale by that dealership for a long time, First off the truck has an Aqualu aluminum bed on it, incorect tail lights. On the inside of the truck it has the wrong speedo, gauge cluster. It is a nice truck but it is not an $18K truck. The dealership has been telling people that the truck is 100% original for years, but do not fall for it.

Yeah, they got a little defensive about my bezel comments and the level of restoration. I wasn't informed enough to pick out the gauge cluster/taillight combo, but that's why I posted up.

Thanks again guys

$18K isn't out of line, given the apperance of the rig. Most people count the hundreds/thousands of hours they spend on trucks as not worth $90/hour. Most count that time as 'free' or 'entertainment', but that doesn't totally remove it from the equation when you want to sell. Your point about the 10K or even 5K rig, and the $$ to restore it isn't out of line.

Anyone who claims that truck is 'all original' should be ready to produce the set of 4 minty-clean early style hubcaps that should go with it ;-).

With a headache rack that would be very close to original and very straight looking truck. The missing headache rack gives it an incomplete look, to me.

You have to ask yourself 'how important is original'. Most folks don't mind a few tasteful, reversible mods, or mods that increase driving pleasure or safety - disk brakes and PS. After all, you have to LIVE with the truck, not just park it as a garage queen and admire its originality (unless a museum piece is your goal). To those who later lament your changes, tell them they should have gotten there first!

If this truck were a flawless perfect original, I'd weigh in against mods, but since it's clearly that original, do your own tasteful thing and enjoy it. That '45 reminds me greatly of mine, so I say this from my own take on it.

I'd certainly offer more like 15K and see where that takes you. Note that Bruce Miller has a very nice red FJ45 LWB for sale on SOR's classifieds page. It has a 350 V8 and all that, but it may be more your cup of tea - ?

tools not correct.......late model 40/60/62 kit

I'd pass on that thing

I looked at that truck a few months ago when it was for sale for $25k. There's a thread somewhere about it. Search with my username or 65-fj45 here and on Pirate4x4.com.

Look under the dash, the MC was leaking and has eaten the paint. There are little cracks in the frame of the door at the corners of the window openings, and a few other places that I can't recall. IIRC, the consensus back then was the truck was worth about $12k.

For what you are planning, it's overpriced at $18k. Keep looking. I found one in Fresno that was complete and unmolested for $4500. It is not driveable, but it fit my needs as a build-up project. If I wanted to drive it right now, I would only need to put about $3k into it.
