I came REAL close to flopping it at Hump & Bump but no dice yet! I'll keep working on it! Should be easier with the 39's!

I dig the hinge doors with the pins on that heep cage. That would be sweet on your 80, but without the 8-ball metal cutouts in each corner.

Yea I like those too but the way the back doors open on these 80's it seem impossible to clear the tube with the front door and still have a decent range of motion openning the rear doors! Real bummer!

Different. I'd never do anything drastic to Cattywampus, I mean com'on, they're Land Cruisers and should only be decorated with namebrand garb, not rode hard and put up wet. I mean, the resale value has greatly been reduced from $5500 to now $5000...




























Dems jus' jokes! I like the concept! I chose the "removing" crap route. I have a very nice dent in my rear door, something your exo would not have prevented, however, your exo would have prevented the very large dent in my front fender. However however, I popped the fender off and hammer/dollied it straight again. You should have chopped the resonator off though, that low hanging fruit would not fly on the SouthEast trails... For that matter the exo wouldn't either, I'm already too wide to follow the group in alot of trails. I'm usually at the end of the group and almost always have to take a completely different line due to girth!

I am from the SouthEast and have been on the same trails you have. I would have to disagree with you about my extra girth preventing me from going through tight places b/c I don't have to fear body damage like someone with out an exo. That means I can slide on my exo cage instead of denting up expensive body parts! I needed / wanted on exo cage more when I was in the SE for that very reason....over hanging tree limbs crushing in my roof line, rain gutters, fenders ect....!

I'm not saying i hate it... I love it. i see this kind of stuff and my imagination runs wild.
Find some places to brace laterally, if that makes sense. I look at the back liftgate area and cringe because i think it would fold like stacked cards back there. Can't compare this exo with a truck/mini exo because thiers typically go through the bed or are "X" braced in the middle someplace, you've just "boxed" your rig. That's the only thing that scares me about yours in a flop, the 4 bars that go from one side to the other might not hold the weight up.

I'm doing an exo too eventually, but there will definitely be tube running laterally. In fact something more simliar to the U80 where the tire carrier gives the rigidity to the rear sides.

No flip, I had mother nature land a tornado and a 20" DBH pine tree on it.

I cut the top and working on a cage and soft top. No major buggy action.

I really can't believe I'm catching flack about the exo! I have managed a 4x4 custom fab shop and I have seen guys roll with exo's and with out! The ones with exo's ALWAYS come out better!!! I guess here on Mud it's just so "out side the box" that we don't want to consider that it could be a REALLY good thing but if you go on more hard core sites like Pirate 4x4, it's quite comon and desirable! And I know the other part is our Land Cruiser's are so beautiful that we don't want to conceal a single curve! And your right PKP80 body panels are replaceable but in my experiance (and I have had lot's of body damage over the years) after a wreck the body panels don't ever line up right again! Not to mention if you do a real number on one like this guy did you have to hack the whole top off and start over!

You can't tell me that a good exo cage wouldn't have saved this 80 from the cutting torch!;p

I just caught back on to this thread and want to clarify that I'm not shelling any flack about the exo. I was between an exo and an internal (went with the later) and I am a huge proponent for safety. What I was thinking out loud was, that the 80 is already super bulky, wide, heavy, and tall. So I would have streamlined my exocage a little more so as not to get caught up on obstacles, rocks, etc. The work you did is clean and will undoubtedly save you and the truck in a roll over, my approach was to reduce the risk of rolling over (again) as much as possible by reducing weight, height, and keeping COG as centered as possible.

I'll say it again, to each his own and you've make that 80 your own via your experience wheeling and esthetic appeal. Rubithon '09 I want to see it wheel in person.
