Finally....some progress!!!

Well she had some clearance issues.....imagine that!!!

So we had to pull her back in and put her under the knife!

OOOUUUCCCHHHAA! That burns!!!

The 5.29's are great!!! And the tires ride nice on the hwy, even better than the pro comps!
There is more trimming to be done b/c the trimming that we did was basicaly just to make it drivable. It won't take much more to make it all good though.

I really like the 5.29's too!! Even with the 39's (I know they are really 38.7's but I'm rounding up ) I clocked my speed last night and when my speedo says 80 I'm really doing 75mph! So I'm getting a little power boost!!!

Looking good in the neighborhood! In regards to the exo on the doors, is there any way you could bow a couple of exo pieces out from the body parallel to the A and B pillars? I know the 80 is a wide fat pig already, but would that clear the doors? As long as the lines are smooth it could act kind of like a slider right?

While it is quite apparent that my doors will at some point get damaged I'm just not willing to sacrifice functionality! I think I've gone well beyond the average Joe to armor up my 80. Besides most dents that I would get in my doors I should be able to take off the inside panel and push out!

It's easier to hammer out dents in the front fenders and rear quarters than in the doors. Ask me how i know.
Aw heck, you didn't ask, but I'll tell ya anyway. i can now get my front fenders off in less time than it takes to take the inner door panels off. I've had HUGE dents in them but have hammer/dolly'd them out. Same true with the rear quarters getting in to pop them out.
Doors.... not so much. There's so much structure inside the door that's it's not easy to get in there and "pop" out dents with a hammer.
Best to use some sort of football or something that can inflate and blow it up while inside the door. i use a blowup doll for that.

Your exo looks great, nice and clean looking and yet functional. I'm going to be building an exo on LandSpeeders Cattywampus soon, so I hope he brings his big hammer and "dolly's" for my daughter to play with.. Ha Ha. Anyway - Yes I'm kicking and screeming innto the Cruiser world with my first ever LandCruiser a '96 FZJ80 that I boaught from Eric - above post. It's really solid and I love it. I'm still running around the Georgia hills in a soon to be SAS'd 4Runner, so no plans for the FZJ80 just yet - Glad I have my hands on one - what a sweet ride though. Hope to be in touch if I ever head out that way. Keep up the great work on your rig, I'm sure you've stirred up a lot of ideas folks have had for their rides too.

Yeah we have some relocation of tubing and more trimming to do but no biggy...have it done next week!

You may be right but I'm going to really give these tires every benifit of the doubt! 4wheel parts mounted them for me and they put 38psi in them and I haven't air them down yet!! I'll prolly run about 15 or 20 on the street and 3 to 5psi on the trail.

Back out to Logandale

Well I did more trimming and still had some rubbing but not so bad that I couldn't wheel and have fun. I will get everything fixed up this week and ready for the Utah run this week end!

We had 8 rigs on our run.

I didn't really get any good pics of my rig (kinda hard to do when I'm driving) but I hoping some of the other guys did and I will post those when I get them.

Look out Nay my tires are flexing!;p

And that's at 10psi...would've been much better at 5psi.

I didn't do much hard stuff this week end but I climbed several rocks and these tires gripped great!! Everyone was telling me that my tires were flexing great too! I'll know more about how sticky these tires are after next week end but as of right now I would take these tires over SS's.

Nay, maybe the tires you had were old and hard.

I thought this was a pretty good side by side comparison. That's Daves ("tan-jeep" mud name) white 80 and he has 6" Slee springs and 37" Toyo's and of course I have maybe 4" lift and 39's. You may not be able to see it in the pic but my 80 is still 1-2 inches lower than Dave's. And I was stuffing those 39's! !

keep going. im sure they rub like hell front and back when they flex or stuff but thats ok. your fenders may get trashed but those tires wont. let the air all they way down to 0 in those stiff army boots and ill bet you still dont drop off the bead. on new years i had my new swampers down to 2psi in front and 4psi in back for a snow run and they held the bead fine on a 10 inch rim.

hope you dont break stuff. those mitchelins are so heavy. get them spinning with your front locker on and watch out.

They really don't rub that bad!

In the front they rub at the top of the fender on the nut heads that hold the inner fender to the outer...I will just grind those down. Up front they also rub on the arms but all I have to do there is extend the turn stops a little.

In the rear they rub on the upper inside of the wheel well but even my 315's did that. They also rub on the bottom lip of the rear fender right in front of the tire. All I have to do there is trim that little piece off.

Look at the pics in #155 post....check out how my side walls are flexed out and the 37" toyo's right beside me aren't. He had 12psi in those toyo's and I have 10psi in mine....looks to me like my side walls are flexing better than the Toyo's.....don't you agree???

As for the weight of my tires you are right they are heavy!
My tires are 115lb's each and actual size is 38.7 x 12.9 x16
But for comparison a SS thornbird 38.50 x 14.50 x16's actual size is 37.5 x 12 and weighs 97lb's so maybe not so bad.
