I am a teacher and have access to a full machine shop. I can cast brass and aluminum. I can also machine plastic, and metals with the exception of the harder stuff. There is a CNC machine so I could duplicate parts. There are also tubing benders and welders. So the question is if there was a part that you can no longer buy or something that is sold but seems way to expensive, what would it be? Or even something in your mind that you want made?

any plastic or rubber casting? lenses? i need early 25/40 wiper motor terminal covers ;) also, pig owners need 73-77 reverse lenses. would like to get more double colored taillight lenses

the housings for the 72-80 license plate lamps often rot out

tailgate handles are a huge one everyone needs at least a spare

i'll think of more later

Yes please ;-) Glove box doors and cluster surrounds out of ABS plastic would rock as well ...

Tucker

Yes to all the above!
Tailgate handle is needed
Taillight lenses would be good, plus reverse lenses
Glove box door cover AND handle
Guage cluster surround

The biggie...

Fixed window glass rubber! For the glass that does not roll up and down in the rear doors. The only current option is from SLOCruisers. I appreciate teh work John put into these, but I hired a glass guy to install those and do the rear doors and he was not impressed. I have my original rubbers for the fixed window. They are old and dried out and cracked, but I have them.

Thanks for asking!

Soooo I can't do plastics or rubber.... At least not yet, but I will look into it. Lets keep it metal! I will look into the tailgate handle. Keep the ideas coming!

alright, if I shave, can I make like a student in your class- for all 6 periods?

can you cast iron?

I can cast doubt.... does that help?

so Napster, sticking with the pig then? Is it getting under your skin?

Thanks for putting this out there, just be careful there are a lot of parts we all need.

Start cranking out some bumpers with swing aways and rear quarter guards ( is this High School we are talking about?). Could be a good little business venture for some student... or a wee little fella who shaved his beard and enrolled. Ha!

Yep it is HS. I'm sticking with my pig until it sells... If it sells. I will just keep working on it until then. And not to be patronizing but this is a pretty great forum with helpful and nice people that are willing to share their knowledge.

As far as bumpers go, are you talking stock or something custom?

Custom.... There are only a few out there who make bumpers for pigs and even fewerer here in the West. There used to be some that incorporated rear quarter guards and such. I know many folks end up making their own, but there are some of us who would buy a custom one also, along with some goodies attached ( swing away spare) Look around if this is an idea worth going for, but it's something. Bumpers, skid plates, roof racks, etc... just my idea.

It's always good for HS kids to see that they can actually make some money by selling the things they make with the skills learned while in HS.

Alright, I'm game for some bumpers too. Send me pics of what you were thinking and ill start mocking it up. List any features that you think are important.

built in flush hitch receiver, built in flush swing out spindles on both sides with caps to cover the holes if not in use, clevis tabs/mounting ears, high lift jack cut-outs on both sides and the middle(something to keep the jack from cocking, something that the jack tongue can "lock" into...), light cut-out options, maybe a built in air tank option
skidplates in 1/4 thick to go from frame rail to frame rail; from tcase flange to bellhousing, maybe a crossbar rear support that also doubles as a anti wrap bar front eye shackle mounting bar

cast aluminum door mirrors.....or cast door mirror mounts that bolt to the factory door holes and accept a 40 style rectangular swinging mirror and arm

various carb adapters- like one for an Impco CA200 mixer to Toyota 2 barrel carb base for dedicated propane use without the holley throttle body

cast aluminum rear view mirror support/ sun visor clips

gauge plates for the main cluster to accept aftermarket gauges or factory gauges or an fj 60 set of gauges...

Yeah lambcrusher! That is what I am talking about. Thanks for the bumper ideas. Pictures of similar bumpers or just something that looks like what you want would help. I did have a question about winches. Is there any standard mounting or is each brand different?

As far as the ideas for parts I would need some of the parts you describe in order to make some prototypes. Have an extra 40 style mirror I can borrow?

I just checked out my visor clip and it seems to be unbroken so I think I can start working on that.

Got any pics of gauge plates that you have in mind?

Keep the ideas coming!

Napster, machined quarter panel vents Aluminum.

Thanks Bob.

Ooooh, now that would be sweet. maybe matching front apron vents?

turn signal bucket bases- the later ones like the 40 series, but their bases had a different angle and shape than ours do.:bounce: I can send something to work from. PM me with shipping info:cheers:
